I finally decided to listen to the full song featured in the episode "The Otto Show". I think plenty of people were introduced to the band Spinal Tap via "The Simpsons" and not the mockumentary itself. As a band of actors playing the role of fictional musicians who started out as British folk singers who progressed into heavy metal, they make serviceable music, but to be honest, the emphasis has always been more about the humor of things going wrong for the group
