Long time since I listened to Lonnie, he was a real favourite of my eldest brother so listened to him a lot when I was a kid…I’d forgotten how many American songs he did, such as this, My Dixie Darling, John Henry, etc, etc

Really good song. But will have to check how historically accurate it is sometime…the “conventional wisdom” at my English school was that the redcoats lost very few battles in the American War of Independence, it was the incredibly difficult lines of supply (that made it impossible to keep our troops supplied) that resulted in British withdrawal.

I see the song over-simplified things a wee bit, but captured the “spirit” of what happened. ( i.e. We Brits got a well deserved drubbing.)
