Did you ever read the four-issue Captain America: Patriot series from back in 2010?
That featured Jeff Mace, the Golden Age Patriot, who was retconned into being the second replacement for Steve Rogers as Cap back in the 1940s.
A few other things worth considering:
* Captain America #43-48, #50 written by Ed Brubaker from +/-2009 includes Bucky's past with the Invaders
* Captain America & Bucky #620-624 (2011) written by Ed Brubaker and Marc Andreyko deal with Cap & Bucky back in WWII; Invaders also appear
* Captain America & Bucky #625-628 (2012) written by James Asmusand and plotted with Ed Brubaker feature a story where the second Captain America & Bucky (William Naslund & Fred Davis Jr.) fight the successor to the android villain Adam (who was in What If? #4)
* Black Panther #21 (2006) written by Reginald Hudlin included modern-day Black Panther (T'Challa) being told by Namor of the time in WWII when the Invaders were in Wakanda and Namor met the Black Panther of that time (Azzuri, T'Challa's grandfather)
* Captain America/Black Panther: Flags of Our Fathers #1-4 (2010), also written by Hudlin, featured Black Panther (Azzuri), Captain America (Steve Rogers), and the Howling Commandos fighting against Red Skull, Baron Wolfgang von Strucker, Master Man, Warrior Woman, and a few others in Wakanda.
Captain America #18-21 (Twenty-First Century Blitz) with Union Jack and Spitfire is probably my favorite single story from the Brubaker years.
Another good read from back in 2010/2011:
Captain America: Forever Allies
Are people looking forward to the new Invaders run coming in January?
Question came up in another thread. Is the Human Torch in Zdarsky's run going to Jim Hammond or Johnny Storm? As Imperius Wrecked pointed out, Hammond is supposed to be the Human Reactor now. Has that changed somewhere recently?
Namor the Sub-Mariner, Marvel's oldest character, will have been published for 85 years in 2024. So where's my GOOD Namor anniversary ongoing, Marvel?
I am extremely hesitant towards any new Invaders projects after the brain damage All-New Invaders gave me, but the creative team looks good and it has to have a different editor, so it'll be a good book, at least.
Brain damage? You mean all the jumping around or the plot thread left dangling?
I'm familiar with the artists (and like them), but not with the writer. I didn't check the editor, but I assume it isn't Mark Panicca ... wait, he's not on X-Men anymore, is he? What's he doing now?
