I understand how the Roger Moore Bond became a cheesy shadow of the Connery films.
But they had a lighthearted pep about them. And I can't help but smile through most of Moonraker.
From the jaw-dropping skydiving stunt in the beginning to the battle in space at the end, it is a romp.
I can't defend it as a great Bond movie, but boy is it fun
Moore is top notch for the era he represented.
Dalton should have gotten to do two more films.
Brosnan should have gotten to do one more.
Bring on more recurring villains in the next film.
Maybe its just when I grew up, but to me Bond is Pierce Brosnan and my favorite film is Goldeneye.

If memory serves (always a dicey proposition with me, so don't take this as gospel), Brosnan was supposed to have followed Moore as Bond, but he was doing Remington Steele for NBC, and the Peacock wouldn't release him from his contract at the time, otherwise, he would've been onboard sooner.
In my mind, Goldeneye was Brosnan's best performance as Bond. The St. Petersburg tank chase was one of the most awesome chase scenes ever in the series.

I think you are right about Bronson and NBC (if memory serves)
But for shear OMG awesome, the first stunt of going off the cliff on the motorcycle to get the plane trumps them all.

I sort of miss the Bond that was a suave and charming subtle killer rather than the Jason Bourne guy with a stone face that he became.

Bingo! And that was what turned me off on Daniel Craig. The reboot, while enormously successful (I'd be foolish to deny that) rendered the franchise joyless and lacking the style and escapist fun that had been a trademark of Bond films. If that's seen as a fine whine on my part, so be it, that's just how I feel.
