It would have been organic if it was shown to grow incrementally over the entire time they've been in the book together. That's...not how it went down. Instead, what we got was completely platonic with no sign of attraction for almost 10 issues and then as soon as Jordan comes on, it just pops out of nowhere. And not just even out of nowhere, like Sizrechs said, it was handled as if watching a high school drama unfold. It's essentially like Jordan is intending for it to seem like Kyle is nothing more than Carol's rebound from Hal.
FYI, just because a male character and a female character are appearing in a book together DOESN'T mean that they're automatically thinking about hooking up, especially when one is supposed to be in a committed relationship (as Carol was).
That's actually not true. Hal was going to propose right before all the crap with First Lantern went down. In fact, the very first time Kyle and Carol met was when they found the ring Hal was going to use in his locker. And, funny thing is, she was gonna say yes.I'll take your word on the Venditti/Jordan conspiracy to break up Hal and Carol. I don't read the Green Lantern title. But, saying Carol is the fickle one in that relationship is ignoring huge chunks of history. Hal has had serious commitment issues, both personal and professional, since Rebirth. Carol and Hal haven't been a serious pairing since before 1993.
Anyway, in this instance, it does make Carol look fickle because she calls it off for literally no reason. All after she fought so hard to get him back and actually appeared like she wanted to get married.
Yes it is, because as I've already stated, just because a man and a woman are near each other does not mean they secretly wanna bang each other. That "bond" you're talking about was formed when Carol was searching for Hal, so, even if what you're saying is true, on some level Kyle has to know he's just a rebound. Also, the never really started having their own "cosmic adventure" until Jordan took over. The book was mostly Kyle training with other Corps leaders and becoming a white lantern. He didn't even really interact with Carol alone all that much. However, Jordan wants us to believe that a romance can suddenly pop up in 2 issues. It's not a "force-feed". They've been in the same book since issue #13. Kyle has a history of being attracted to super-powered women. Carol is more complex, but she knows she can't be with Hal because of who he is. Carol assumes she must be in love to keep her Star Sapphire powers, and Kyle is the only guy around. Whether her feelings for him are genuine or because she thinks she needs to be in love has yet to be determined. And, I can't stress this enough, Carol and Kyle have forged a bond over the last couple of years, fighting cosmic threats
I wouldn't really call any superhero romance "stable". Barry and Oris weren't so "stable" when she was murdered /sent to the future. Clark and Lois' relationship was filled with deceit from the beginning, and Peter and Mary Jane had to deal with losing a baby and the ghost of Gwen Stacey hanging over their heads. However, it's the instability that speaks to the strength of these relationships. The fact that they have been able to survive so much together.I say "dumpster fire" because Hal and Carol have never had the stability of the others you mentioned, and likely will not. It would be more problematic now that Carol has been established as a Star Sapphire of the Rainbow Corps. Historically, they have been hot and cold, and it's been fairly frozen since the early 90's. I'd like to see long-term relationships return, but Carol and Hal are not built for that, unless their characterizations change dramatically at some point.
Anyway, in this particular instance they were completely ready to have that stability you're talking about. But Venditto came along and forced them apart for some stupid ham-fisted reason.
I just thank God that the Johns' endings, which are still canon, show Hal and Carol married in the future.

Carol and Kyle seems really forced. that is a reason to not happen.
Hal and carol kind of tired me, but writers should build relationships before it starts.
But the fact that Carol is older than him isn't. Green arrow was always much older than black canary, and he cheated on her. Really? she could do much better than him.
another thing: she still needs to love romantic way someone to keep the ring? oh geez
superman and wonder woman shouldn't happen, boring concept.
tim and cassie, still going on?
Superman/Lois Lane
Wonder Woman/Steve Trevor
Batman/Catwoman
Batman/Talia
Batman/Lois Lane

There is precedent of such a story, so it wouldn't surprise me.
I would like to point out, that future endings don't really carry much weight, and I laughed at the thought that the writer felt like he could make stories go the route he wanted them to go to when he wasn't going to be on deck anymore. Because other writers will want to do other stories. Like say have the white power corrupt Kyle in a Future's End tie-in that pretty much negates the 'they lived happily ever after' showcase ending.
I think at this point nearly every super couple has been mentioned at least once. Just waiting on someone to say Aquaman and Mera.

Oh of course it isn't, it's a future story as you said that's meant to be adverted, and like the everyone lived happily ever after ending it's in the future in a infinite continuing story. I don't expect John to be a brainwashed indigo just as i don't expect him to quit the corps and become a politician; I don't expect Kyle to turn evil just as I don't expect him to stay white forever and turn to space Jesus. With those I don't expect Hal and Carol to Have to get married in the future, it's just one possibility as with Hal getting stuck to the source Wall, and to expect writers to follow on somebody else's future plans [either those plans be good or not] has always been a silly notion to me.
Future's End is an alternate timeline, dude. Its essentially one big non-canon event. So, no that doesn't negate the Johns endings. However, I will point out that while its not set in stone that we'll actually see them get married, the likelihood that Hal and Carol will at some point get back together is high, given that they are each others' most significant love interests since they were first introduced. This little, whatever, flirtation with Kyle will be forgotten in a few years.
