Batman in the Suicide Squad

While I was researching informations about the Suicide Squad across the Internet, I found a list of all it members back to the first incarnation of the team in 1959. I was surprised to see Batman name on this very list (Suicide Squad #40 (vol. 1) (1987 – 1992) : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._Squad_members

My question is the following : How and why Batman ended up in the Suicide Squad and how and why he got out ?

He hasn't been on the team. Amanda Weller was in prison at the time and Batman went to her so they could recreate Suicide Squad which had stopped. Batman had several infights with Weller doing the run.

Batman joined the group towards the end of volume 1 IIRC
He appeared a bit before then but very randomly
