Default How Would you Rank Character Morality?

    Hello All,

I've searched the web for anything related to this question with no luck. So, I decided I'd ask the question myself. I am curious as to how people would rank marvel characters based off of their morality. From the pure of heart hero, to the most vile of villain, and everyone in-between, where would you put most characters? I have whipped up a list to go off of, but feel free to tweak as you see fit.

    — Marvel Morality Scale —

    10 --- Ultimate Good
This person is a completely selfless individual. He or she does not allow his/her pride to dictate his/her actions. This person restrains from letting his/her anger harm others. He/she will never actively seek a fight, but will stand up for those who are being hurt or oppressed. He/she acts diligently each day to spread kindness and hope to all. This individualÂ’s thoughts and actions are always set on trying to help others, even villains, no matter the sacrifice he/she has to make to do so.

    9 --- Super Good
This individual is almost always selfless. He or she actively tries to make the world a better place. He/she will occasionally act upon a selfish desire, but only if it does not affect others in a negative way. This person is quick to swallow their pride and seldomly lets their anger out on others, and if someone were to come unto harm or anguish because of that impulse, he/she would feel deep regret and would actively try to right his/her wrong. This person will throw the first blow to protect those he/she cares about, or if the cause is just. This person might have inner conflict with helping a villain, but would swallow his/her ego if it helped the world in some way.

    8 --- Very Good
This person is constantly looking to do what is right and is trying to set a good example, even if he/she falls short from time to time. Selfish desires, anger, and pride will get in the way of him/her occasionally, and every now and then he/she will hurt others due to those choices. However, he/she typically tries to right those wrongs, even at the cost of his/her pride. When addressing a perpetrator, he/she will settle for a physical confrontation, instead of seeking a way for redemption of said evil-doer. This person will not attempt to kill anyone, even a supervillain, instead following justice and honor.

    7 --- Good
This person actively tries to contribute to the betterment of society, but will put that aside from time to time to pursue selfish interests. This person will allow their ego and anger to get the better of them, and will cause pain for others; however, not always will this person care to fix that broken relationship if they felt they were also being wronged. This person has no problem using force to solve a problem, and might come close to killing evil-doers; that said, this person can typically show restraint from going too far. Sometimes, he/she will make good choices simply because they are self serving; instead of making a good choice just because it is the right thing to do.

    6 --- Decent
This person can be rough around the edges, and he/she can hurt those he/she cares about with his/her personality, but his/her heart is usually in the right place. This person acts upon their pride, ego, and anger quite often and will share these negative qualities with those around them frequently. When push comes to shove, he/she will typically make the right decision, even sacrificing himself/herself for the greater good. This person has no qualms about harming evil-doers, even outright trying to kill them. He or she will go out of their way to find the trouble lurking out in society and take it down before it starts.

    5 --- Neutral
This person is willing to perform both good deeds or evil acts, dependent upon his/her mood or desire. This individual might go out of his/her way to help others; sometimes out of the goodness of his/her heart, but other times in order to get something in return. Also, this person might pursue selfish desires and will possibly commit crime to do so; This person might be fine with hurting others, or with protecting others, based upon personal connection or circumstance.

    4 --- Bad
If this individual were to help others, he/she would expect something greater in return. This person has no issue with extorting or humiliating others. However, under some rare circumstances, this person might feel badly about his/her own actions. He or she will typically pursue selfish desires, and might even hurt others in the process to achieve his/her goal. If someone does get hurt, he/she may or may not feel remorse; dependent upon the connection to the victim of circumstance. This person actively pursues crime or other dishonorable acts. Despite these flaws, this person does not actively try to kill innocent people, but might make an exception for an enemy, or for revenge.

    3 --- Evil
This person scarcely feels remorse for committing crime, or for hurting others to achieve his/her goals. This person still places some value on connection with others, albeit hardly. This individual typically has no problem with killing or hurting enemies, or even random people; but this person might have a difficult time choosing to harm his/her best friend, loyal servant, etc if put into such a situation. The goals of this person will most certainly affect those around him/her in a negative way, and this person will not care.

    2 --- Very Evil
This person is bent on world domination, pursuing insane amounts of power, etc and will go incredible lengths to achieve his/her goal. He or she has no problem killing thousands or even millions of innocent lives, but he/she might have some shred of loyalty and/or connection with minions or evil allies. This person has no qualms about harming others for the sake of revenge, a personal vendetta, or to display dominance.

    1 --- Super Evil
This person is completely selfish in his/her desires, and will do absolutely anything to achieve his/her goal; This individual is hell bent on the complete subjugation of the will, and the crushing of the spirit of others, just to prop up self-worth and ego. This individual places no value on connection with anyone. Hypothetically, he/she will sell the soul of his/her best friend or kill his/her lover if it leads to more power. This person takes great pleasure in his/her tyranny.

    0 --- Ultimate Evil
This person finds complete purpose in ruining lives. This person wants to torment and torture others above all else. He or she would give up any amount of power, fame, wealth, etc just to cause more pain and suffering to people. He or she believes it is their sole purpose to perform terrible acts, and would stop at nothing to do so.

    Here is an example
    10:Captain America
    9: Spider-Man
    8: Thor
    7: Iron-Man
    6: Wolverine
    5: Rocket
    4: Venom
    3: Ronan
    2: Red Skull
    1: Dr. Doom
    0: Carnage

If you want a system that's kinda-sorta well used, at least among nerd groups, try using the Dungeons and Dragons alignment axis.

You've got two lines; "good---neutral---evil" and then "lawful --- neutral ---- chaotic." Everyone picks one from each line.

So you end up with nine alignments. I'll try to provide an example for each, though people can (and will) argue the details.

Lawful good people follow the law and/or their own code of conduct, and aim to always do the right thing. This might fit someone like Captain America.

Neutral good people do what is right, without concern for laws or codes. This might fit someone like Thor.

Chaotic good people follow their heart, which normally aims them in the right direction, but often don't think the consequences through. Tony Stark might fit this one.

Pure neutral people aren't overly good, lawful, evil, or chaotic, they're just....people. I suppose most supporting cast characters might fit in here. Maybe certain versions of Punisher?

Lawful neutral people follow the law and/or their code of conduct, whether the law is just or unjust. Ronan the Accuser might fit this description.

Chaotic neutral people just do what they want in any given moment. Might be good, might be bad, depends on their mood. This is basically Deadpool, or maybe MCU Star-Lord.

Lawful evil people follow the law but twist it to their own ends. Basically every evil lawyer, general, or politician you've ever seen.

Neutral evil people do what's in their self interest, whether it's against the law or not. Red Skull might fit this.

Chaotic evil people just want to see it all burn. Carnage might fit this mold.

My favorite Daredevil tends to be in the 9-10 range. He's the guy willing to dive in front of a bullet to save a drug dealer. Fights for Justice in the system... and works at night to make sure the system works.

For too long he's been written as around 6-7 but at his most idealistic it's a 9-10.

Good reasoning for Daredevil, I didn't think about that. One of my favorites as well!

Very cool system and thread. I would put Tony at a 7 as well.
"We live in a world of cowards. We live in a world full of small minds who are afraid. We are ruled by those who refuse to risk anything of their own. Who guard their over bloated paucities of power with money. With false reasoning. With measured hesitance. With prideful, recalcitrant inaction. With hateful invective. With weapons. F@#K these selfish fools and their prevailing world order." Tony Stark
