At no moment during the battle was it ever possible for Winterfell to turn the tide. They were fighting an absolutely fearless army numbering in the hundreds of thousands, immune to the cold and able to see in the dark, and commanded by a being who could instantly raise the dead to fight for him, even those dead hundreds of years. There was never a moment when it wasn't about who would kill the Night King, and how. The defenders knew that going in... which is why, admittedly, the Dothraki charge was stupid. It did nothing really to buy any time and it sacrificed many thousands of potential defenders who could have kept the battle going long enough to find a way.

The battle scenes were never "who's going to win?" but "can they stay alive long enough to get to the NK?"

which made the plot armor that much more frustrating. If things needed to be "how long can we hold out" why were we given scene after scene of every important character sitting on the front lines slashing away in front of stone and barriers, only giving ground as the horde slowly pushed them back while magically slaughtering only those around them and leaving pretty much every main character alive? There still needs to be a back and forth of some kind, a misdirection at some level ... something to give the audience to cling onto.

And really, they had two dragons which could turn armies on their own. It was like bringing an A-10 into WW1. They had a mountain of dragon glass on which one slash anywhere dusted the dead like Vampires from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. While we were constantly told it was hopeless, the resources said otherwise. It was, in reality, very possible that they could hold their own and not just be steamrolled... at least for awhile.

    Like:
"oh the line is holding ... maybe the cast will live the night after all ... maybe this battle will drag on into ep4? Oh crap its faltering ... are they really going to end it now?"

    instead we got:
"holy crap they wiped out the Calvary ... guess that front line is dead. Wait they're all alive? How? well they are on the castle now... now they're dead. wait Sam is literally fighting on a pile of bodies? How on earth?"

They tried to make the only suspense about who would die ... and it became very obvious very quickly the answer was "no one of consequence". I mean was anyone really attached to the priest of light?

Dany's eyes while sitting at the table and Tormund calls Jon a king.

*scream internally* "Don't make me murder you."

COurse, had the Night King avoided the battle entirely Bran would probably have known it, and Jon and his group probably would have went after him. In some ways the Night King is safer with his army than apart from it.

Whatever the NK decided to do, Bran had the potential to adapt their strategy to it. If the NK knew Bran coud do that anyways, maybet the simplest strategy of just throwing everything at them might be the best.

Thank god Bron is back. I missed him.

So Euron has inherited Ramsay's "god-tier plot armor villain powers" it would seem.

Dani could’ve easily flew around that mountain island thing and burned that fleet to a crisp before they had a chance to reload and reaim after the bombardment on the fleet.

But that would require Euron not to have "Villain Sue" powers and we cannot have that.

-They just crapped away all of Jamie's character development.
-How the heck did they "take" Missandei.
-Euron has taken Ramsay's place as the "villain sue" of this show.
-Everyone is a moron on the "hero's" side.
    -This dialogue is awful.
    -Etc.

THIS episode is far worse than the last one.

I...can't even think of a joke example, given two choices Cersei will ALWAYS pick the most cruel, evil, and selfish option.
