Ugh, I hate losing a dragon...However, I was mentally prepared this time with Rhaegel as I figured the dragons would not make it to the end, and well...only a handful of episodes to go.

Lot's to unpack in the episodes and from the short amount of what I have read here and the first couple of searches online, the reaction/reviews seem mostly negative.

Whatever, I am not going to let it sour my enjoyment for the series. I am ready to watch Dani burn all of Kings Landing though! Poor Missandei

Anyway, I think Jon ends up reforming the nightwatch or some ****. Wouldn't he be the 1000th commander? Sounds poetic
it has not been addressed, but i think the night watch is no more. or sam would deal with guilt for breaking his oath. in the past he found some loop holes, but with NK defeated and most watchers on the wall dead anyway, it doesn´t look like they will be forming a new NW.
which will bite the realm in the a**.
    6000 years in the future.

how do they know the WW are done once and for all?
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Also Cersei will legitimately let her citizens starve to death to make Dany the bad guy who is preventing them from nourishment.

King's Landing is ultimately a completely arbitrary city in the grand scheme of things. It's like if one person held Washington DC and someone else had the ability to take the rest of the country and claim dominion over it. At that point the White House becomes meaningless if nobody is working with it. Dany has the North, Vale, Dorne, and Iron Islands. She already controls more of Westeros than Cersei. Cersie is completely shut in at King's Landing. Just take back the rest of the Kingdom and make her come to you on your turf (which would be everything) and watch her army fall apart.
She could advance, but she won’t. If the army lives the safety of the castle, its dragon food (because the northern army would be stationed far enough back to not be hit by the castle’s defenses. Once the siege is locked in, Dani or Jon can simply leave with a portion of the Army to secure the rest of the 7 kingdom while the other leads the siege. Both don’t need to be there so they could easily multitask.

That is why I said re-form.

Make it "more" than it was (which was just a bunch of criminals/poor people)

I could easily see a hint towards the end that the WW threat isn't gone or something. End the series like it started... have some northern wall freefolk dude killed mysteriously and the series ends with jon staring at the NK symbol, cut to black, the end lol

Only problem I have with most of my "guesses" is that GRRM said the ending is bittersweet and I can't think of anything "sweet" lol. Everything seems to be headed towards "very freaking bitter"

yea, if the spoilers are true, almost all contenders for the IT will die. so what effect has that on the rest of the realm? union of seven socialist republics?
or is it just a nihilistic tale about the futility and vanity of mankind?

    Leaning this way.

Then again, GoT internet hardcores can't complain about "GOT ISN'T A FAIRY TALE LIKE LOTR!!!" or something

I feel bitter already binging to catch up.. I dind't watch the show for years because I generally dislike TV shows. This is why... years feel wasted on a "meh" ending lol
    '

I'll be curious if GRRM goes inot damage control after it airs. This is HIS ending. The path their might be on DD but he told them how it ends.

Martin has always been that type of writer who would rather let the story write itself than try to force it towards a predefined endpoint though, so while he may have had some kind of ending concept that he was working with, he ultimately would have tried to guide the story to a natural conclusion rather than to use contrivances to tick all his check boxes. D&D definitely don't share that approach though, they just have a couple of story beats they want to hit and make up whatever it takes to fill in the gaps, logic and consistency be damned.

Even people who have never read the books must admit that there has been a significant drop off in the quality of the show in the last few seasons. Martin has his faults as a writer but he is still a supremely talented storyteller that knows how to craft a complex plot that is both engaging and emotionally resonant, whereas D&D are clearly just aiming to maximize spectacle and shock value and don't really know how to do it in a satisfying and meaningful way. They were good at what they were hired for, which was to adapt a pre-existing story into a compelling TV show, but when it comes to actually writing original material they just suck at that, period.

Sigh... After this episode, the possible leaks for the ending, and a bunch of theories... It seems like there's just no way this is gonna end well for Dany, and I just hate it. I hate it so much. Even though I haven't cared much for the latest seasons of GOT, I realized I'm still deeply emotionally attached to her character. The thought that she's most likely gonna die, tragically, just kills me. While I also enjoyed the rest of the story, Dany was THE thing for me. She's what really hooked me on the show, and the books(though, to be honest I never finished them..........). So, in a way she'll always be the protagonist in my eyes. Not Jon, not anyone else. It hurts me so much to see how they're constantly having her painted on a bad light to favor him. How every little thing she does is a hint that she's supposedly going mad. How having ambition for the throne is now apparently a thing to be frowned upon and we should only accept the real good guys who don't care for it...

I wish I could just blame it all on the shitty writers, but, George already said that the ending for the main characters is gonna be the same in the books... But, no matter what, I'm always gonna be loyal. #TeamDany til the end. When she dies(which I hope I'm wrong about but I'm already accepting as a reality in my head), the part of me that pretty much grew up watching this show(yeah, not recommendable, I know...) is gonna die too, and I'll just be forever in grief.

Sorry to derail the thread with this super dumb emotional rant, but I needed to vent somewhere... And I guess I thought this was a better option than reddit.

That's a murky issue. We know he was the 998th Lord Commander when he died. Was Thorne legit elected after the mutiny? If so, then Edd would have been the 1000th.

He did it 300 years ago. He had two experienced dragon riders for his other two. Also he had fully grown dragons that were much older. Aegon’s dragon’s were the size of 747’s. Aegon could stand on the back of its neck while riding it.

For the record Dorne actually did kill a dragon back then with a Scorpion and bolt. Also Rheagal was so weak because he fought another dragon.

So realistically you had one killed by an ancient evil demon and another killed after being weakened by another dragon and taken down in a standard way

I feel for you. After the first two seasons, Dany stopped being a character who interested me at all because her storyline (in the show and in what books we have) seemed too implausible. Be a conqueror or be a mother to freed slaves, but you can't be both. I think if Dany had decided to stay in Essos to rule and keep undoing the wrongs of the civilizations there, I would have more respect for her. Instead, she has become corrupted by her entitlement to the Iron Throne, desiring so much to rule a people she never grew up with that she puts all of the people she freed and who chose to follow her at risk. The people of Westeros have gotten along just fine (or not) without her; the people of Essos needed her more.

I agree with you. Seasons 5 and 7 were travesties, but I actually think most of Season 6 was fantastic, to the point where it is my favorite season. Sure, there was a lot of spectacle, but most of it felt earned. Dany burning the Khals and uniting the Dothraki. "Hold the door." Battle of the Bastards. Cersei's Trial. In season 6, despite having run out of book material, the show still managed to surprise and shock me in a good way.

Which ending seems legit going forward?

Jon sits the Iron Throne, with or without Dany (highly unlikely).

Dany gains the Iron Throne following Jon's death or public abdication but nobody is happy about it because she's...well...mad (plausible).

Dany becomes High Queen but is checked in power by a council of leaders from each of the 7 Kingdoms (plausible).

Dany and Jon both die or else refuse the Throne and a Great Council rules Westeros (somewhat less plausible).

Such a council will likely consist of Sansa Stark (the North), Robin Arryn (Vale), Edmure Tully (Riverlands), Yara Greyjoy (Iron Islands), Gendry Baratheon (Stormlands), Ser Bronn! or Samwell Tarly (Reach), and nameless Dornish puppet (Dorne).

Was that actually mentioned on the show though? I can't remember (binged hard to catch up)

If not then it is kind of moot.

    That sounds horrible lol

There is nothing hinting towards that. Everything is still lords, bending the knee, wards, ect
