Captain Britain does seem to be talked about a bit more recently it feels with the latest being Orlando Bloom who wouldn't mind playing the role in the MCU. Wouldn't be my choice, could see him as slaymaster perhaps.

I think he is just referring to the expression 'Catholic Guilt' as to her behaviour and adding to that that English people tend to have that sort of self doubt/guilt -- rather than a literal reference to Catholicism.
I doubt the Braddocks would have been brought up Catholic given their heritage (their father was after all aware of Otherworld) -
or they could have been sent to a private school which are often of a particular religious persuasion?

I don't think Otherworld precludes being Catholic. That being said, the fact that they held so much historic power suggests, perhaps, they belong to the Church of England (cake or death).

A number of aristocratic British families were/are Catholic. As I've said before, look at Evelyn Waugh's novels such as the Sword of Honour trilogy, or Brideshead Revisited - all stately homes and Catholic guilt.
