I remember him as starting off pretty bad and pretty much being all over the place in terms of characterisation. I kinda felt most of the heroes were taking a back-seat to Remender's Venom, so it wasn't like CB was the only hero acting out of character, which I guess is something.

He wasn't portrayed as stupid as this, however:

Every so often on the internet, there's mention of a Spider-Man story where Captain Britain becomes an alcoholic and almost cripples someone - did this ever actually happen? I never see an issue number for it.

I could take him being treated shabbily by other heroes (he doesn't have to get on with everyone) and whining (he's got indignant before), but inept and disrespecting war heroes? Captain Britain disrespecting veterans? To this I can only say:

I believe you're talking about the Excalibur issue written by Lobdell that my last scan was from.

I haven't gotten to Lobdell's parts in Excalibur yet, didn't he kind of jack things up with that series? Or was that a different writer I'm thinking of?

Cold Water, I've just sent you a PM with links to scans. I think those should work, but if not, let me know.

Not sure if this off-topic. Has anyone been to the Forbidden Planet near Tottenham Court Road? I got to the stop, and couldn't find it!

Kind of, yes. Although it's never been made abundantly clear how much was down to Lobdell himself and how much was down to the overall editorial approach of the X-Men Office of the time.

Lobdell's run kicked of by removing Captain Britain, and then removing all of the British characters from the book. Including the rogues gallery that had been built up to that point. For a while it was purely Kitty, Rachel and Nightcrawler fighting C-List X-Men villains with no connections to the team.

When Brian did return? Well, he wasn't... quite Brian at first. He was 'Britannic'. Who was initially suggested to be... Something else. But it wasn't until much later, when Warren Ellis took over, that Brian's time 'lost' in the timeline was really explored.

'Britannic' was just a very dull, non-national costumed, variant of Captain Britain. He didn't really have any personality, and didn't really do very much.

It's on Shaftesbury Avenue. It moved from Tottenham Court Road several years ago now. It's still near Tottenham Court Road tube, just in a slightly different direction.
