I struggled reading through a handful of issues since the new team started but this issue finally delivered on what looked like this team should have been capable of all along. Great issue.
I felt this was a really great issue.
We got some character development from Shin and saw that he missed the graduation of a family member, further cementing that he is a pretty alone man. After all the times has been brutalized you start feeling sorry for him. Arthur finally granting his request to come to Atlantis probably made him feel as if be died and went to heaven.
We finally got to see a bit more of the Atlantean politics. Nice to see that some parts are indeed not fully submerged. We even got to see Arthur and Mera eating with everyone else. And it seems some of the elders don't have much worry of humans and were even friendly to them. I actually might star liking Atlanteans as people if this keeps up.
Highlight of the issue was instead of execution, which as we have besdd multiple times is how Atlantis deals with treason, Arthur decides to show them amnesty instead. He even let them build their own colony with their own laws outside Atlantis. This will likely go over well with people and get him some needed respect. Because as we've learned, the prejudice of Atlantis is so deep, the kingdom itself literally rejects a human ruling it. That's some strong stuff.
DC should hire Jeff Parker to co-write Justice League with Johns. He's doing great on this title
This was easily Parker's best issue yet on his run. It was also fantastic to see Pelletier back as the only artist on the issue, and apparently he'll be the only one for the rest of this arc. Really looking forward to what happens next
