Solid choice.
I guess he's best known for Sherlock, and for playing a villain-by-numbers in Star Trek Into Darkness, but Cumberbatch has been giving acclaimed performances in British theatre and TV for quite a few years.
He really is a terrific actor. I'd defy anyone to see his performance, say, in To the Ends of the Earth (that came out in 2005) and not be impressed. To judge him too harshly for Khan would be like judging Tom Hardy harshly for Star Trek Nemesis, or for that matter, for his turn as Bane in the Dark Knight Rises, and ignoring him for his work in Bronson. There's more to Cumberbatch than just his performances that were seen by an international audience.

THis was definetly one of the most likely of all the casting rumors. Hes a great actor but he doesn't come off as Dr Strange to me. We will see if he can immerse himself in the character and make a transformation. The guy can act that's always a good place to start. Hes got the voice too, its just the look for me. We will see if he can transform himself into the sorcerer supreme we deserve. Hopefully they follow the facial look from the comics. Jet black hair with the streaks of grey, and the facial hair. The costume will get an update, thats expected. But if Cummberbatch comes out looking like himself in Dr Strange costume ill be upset. Dye the hair and grow the goatee.
