Kara Danvers? Looks like they're trying hard to get to Marvel.

It looks like they're merging Kara Zor-El and Linda Danvers' characters.

So kara will have an older sister, that sounds like an interesting dynamic. I read peter david's supergirl, and I kinda miss linda danvers.

Linda Danvers mixed with Kara Zor-El, not horrible, I guess. Easier to work with from a TV show standpoint.

Well, she has an honest claim to both names that predates anything from Marvel, and calling her Kara in some scenes and Linda in others could cause confusion. They're just combining her first name with her most commonly used last name.

Actually, it's all classic silver age Kara Zor-El. I'm not seeing anything that's reminiscent of the PAD version of Supergirl, except the name Danvers, which Kara was using 35 years before the PAD version debuted.

It would be like Clark Kent and Kal-El. Kal Kent would be stupid, LOL. Sure, Supergirl's indentities aren't as well known as Superman's, but the different names would be fairly easy to explain.
Kara Danvers just sounds too much like Carol Danvers.

Maybe that's the point? I know the people who made Babylon 5 complained a lot about DS9 having a character named Leeta, since B5 had a principle character named Lyda.

So you believe the WB/DC is purposefully changing the name of a character to sound more like Marvel's Carol Danvers, who has a movie coming out in a few years, just to cause confusion?

The difference is that the name Kara has been used for centuries, whereas Kal isn't used as a name at all.

Kal/Cal is a nickname for Kalvin/Calvin. Even if that weren't the case, any word can be a name. It doesn't have to have been used for centuries to make it a true name.

I hope the show gets a decent budget for special effects.
