I really enjoyed the new Avenged Sevenfold album. I think that is a much better direction than their last one. To their credit, you can't accuse them of being that band that puts out the same album every time. None has sounded quite like the others.

Metallica's new album, Hardwired...to Self Destruct.. has leaked. There are a few throwaways, a few gems, and a lot of solid to good songs. Nothing really surprising. The production and mixing is better than the last couple, but still nowhere near as good as the 80s and 90s stuff. Average drumming way too loud in the mix, half of the guitar solos sound phoned in, really good riffs and some catchy choruses. Much better than most anything they've done in the last 20 years, but not close to their classic first 3 - arguably 4 albums. Still, new Metallica always makes me happy. Probably a B overall from me, would be an A- if they had a better producer and kept some more grit on their guitar tones.

But holy crap, if you guys like classic Black Sabbath, some of these Metallica songs are practically love letters to them.

Metallica's latest single, Atlas, Rise!, from their upcoming album, Hardwired...To Self Destruct was released yesterday, 10/31/2016

I like the musical direction as on the previous releases from this album, but with the same complains - Kirk seems to just be showing up for the paycheck and half-assing it these days, and the production and mix has some annoyances. Not nearly as bad as DM, but the guitars sound weak and more classic-rocky, not quite fitting of a metal band, and Lars's drumming is WAY too loud in the mix. However, at least it sounds like Lars is trying harder these days. Some nice accents and fills, some double-bass flourishes. James and Rob seem to be on point.

So I listened until the "solo" then I went and sped up the song to 1.25 & it sounded like old school Metallica.

Somebody woke up Kirk for about 38 seconds then went back to playing rhythm guitar alongside Hetfield for the rest of the song. This is a song usually found on the "B" side of RATT record & 4th song in.
