As with everything it depends on execution, but I'm loving this academy idea right now.
So in other words, a really bad story idea for a really bad costume redesign.
If by "bad costume redesign" you mean "MUCH better than that godawful one that she's been wearing for the past few years," than yes that's true.
Sounds great, I can't wait. Also the costume is awesome, i hope that sticks around. Look at how good the art is!
I like the new costume, except for the goggles. I guess there will be some in-story reason why she will wear them, so I'll see how that plays out.
I wonder if Granny Goodness is the headmistress. ;-)

Not Peter David.
Interesting premise. If the writing and characterization is good I may pick this up and have this be my second DC ongoing story I'm reading, first one being the new Batgirl.
Looking forward to this mini-reboot. But, with everything going on hold for two months next April, I'm hoping the new (and old) writers won't lose momentum after this first arc together!
It'd be nice if this run could salvage the Worldkiller concept. It was so cool in the beginning and totally met with a thud once Johnson left the first time.
No strong feelings one way or another on the costume, as its clearly just a temporary thing.
OH just wow! Emanuela Lupacchino art is truly beautiful. Coming off of playing Bungie's "Destiny" on the PS3 and it's whole 'Crucible' thing I'm liking this idea of a Hogwarts meets Star Destroyer in 'Supergirl'. I love Supergirl as it is one of the best comic offerings from DC Comics in therms of the 'Supes' line. Kara is an awesome character.
Sounds interesting. The fact that Maxima will be returning in it also has my interest.
I like the new costume for the most part. But seriously? What possible purpose could the goggles serve? To protect her eyes? Her INVULNERABLE eyes? To somehow enhance her vision? She doesn't need goggles for that.
But who cares? Lupachino's art looks awesome!
Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are,
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
--Lord Alfred Tennyson--
It sounds good, can't wait to try out the first issue.
