Trying to come up with something new, it occurred to me that in itself might make for an interesting contest.
Once upon a time, publishers wouldn't just launch a series. They'd give a feature a try-out first to see if it caught on. So that's this week's contest--
AT THE TRYOUTS!
A cover of a book where the featured character doesn't actually have his or her own series yet, but just is getting to headline that particular month. Trial-balloon stuff.
Like this one--
Okay? (Edited to add-- it's okay if the headliner USED to have a series, but the actual cover you put up has to be from some sort of audition book. Marvel, in particular, used to try to revive canceled books with this kind of one-off.)
Here's the usual boilerplate...
Post one (and only one) cover that fits the theme of this week's contest.
Cover must be from a published comic book or collected volume.
If you don't think a particular cover fits the theme, just don't vote for it. No need to argue it out in the thread. Nothing sucks the fun out of a game like rules-lawyering.
Covers must be posted before voting begins.
Voting begins 12 AM Tuesday and runs until 12 AM Wednesday PST.
Vote by posting the name in bold of the poster whose cover best fits the theme or that you simply like the most.
The winner of the contest is the entrant with the most votes after the voting period.
And have fun!
