I think the winner has already been posted, so here's a significant tryout.

    To Paradox

    "marvelmaniac6169 gets pedanted:"

I am going to get "pedantED" again...
    The correct spelling/pronunciation/use is Pedantic.

Well, no, he wasn't getting pedantic, he was getting pedanticed at.

You're miscorrecting my made up words!

Y'know, I don't want to get all pedantickacizing here, but it seems to me that a lot of this week's choices miss the mark. A first appearance, even a featured appearance, isn't necessarily the same as a deliberate try-out. But whatever; we'll all vote according to our own consciences, as is our wont. Just means fewer to choose from for me.
May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I nearly mentioned that, but thought maybe, leave it to Greg... Glad you did though!

And I've really been enjoying the pics, whether they 'fit' or not.

Even most comics that look like tryouts are really more like intros than tryouts. They stick a new character in another hero's book to introduce them, but they already have a long term plan to give that new character a try with its own book. Some of the comics posted so far are explicit examples of that. I almost posted the first appearance of Dazzler, for example, but I realized that, no, she was part of Marvel marketing plan from jump and was always intended to get her own book.

But who cares? It's for fun and people can define tryout howver they like.

I see your point, but unless you can read the minds of the writers , we can't really know what the intent of introducing a new character was.

We can't read the minds of writers, but Greg certainly spelled out what he was after - characters without series headlining a tryout/spotlight book.

    Or as Greg put it

" the actual cover you put up has to be from some sort of audition book"

It's a fun little comic cover contest. We're not writing a Constitutional Amendment, here. Stop worrying about it and vote how you will.

It's true. However, I've seen several that totally fit the theme that I would never have considered. I'd honestly forgotten how many regular series in comics had issues that were essentially 'back door pilots,' as they used to say in the TV business. I've also seen a few 'first-appearance' covers that I don't think fit the theme idea-- some of them, I don't think they were meant as series audition stories. But I really don't feel strongly enough about the issue to say "doesn't fit, take it down." Just don't vote for 'em.
You can find a bunch of books I wrote stories for here. The weekly column is here.

Maybe more than half miss the mark but they can still win. I always enjoy seeing the contestants thinking outside of the box.
