Shipped from the US by Amazon.com on Friday, arrived this morning in Germany. Damn. I imagine that was faster than to many people in the US.

It's a beautiful book, with the production quality that we have come to expect from DH. The binding is a bit stiff, but no gutter loss. There are sketches (similar to the Hellboy Library books) and variant covers in the back.

And best of all: it contains almost 500 pages of comics alone.

As promised here are some pics of Tank Girl.

I think the book is probably 3/4 B&W. It has heaps of extra's throughout - sketches, draft pages, interviews, covers and various other weird things (like the full page naked drawing of Tank Girl with cut out clothes on the opposite page so you can clothe her - I didn't think a pic of that would be appropriate). All up it's a quality package. I hope it reads as well as it looks.

Will Eisner's The Spirit Artist's Edition via LordJulius:

As promised (Or threatened. Depends.), here are some pictures of the Will Eisner The Spirit AE, which arrived today. It is a thing of beauty, but that is a given with these books.

If you look at some of his pages (the stories in this AE range from 1947 to 1950), it becomes mind boggling why it took about another 40 years or so until this extraordinary and experimental layout was seen in mainstream comics again. Just compare it to the typical panel layout of any Marvel, DC or even EC comic between 1950 and 1980-85. It's as if nobody knew Eisner's Spirit existed. It is a bit similar to Citizen Kane and movies. The storytelling techniques that Welles used in 1941 weren't picked up on by Hollywood until the 1990s.

Hm. my subconsciousness must've picked up the comparison to Citizen Kane from IDW's website, since they make it there as well.

Peter Pan (Loisel) via MartinNL:

So my Peter Pan book arrived. Here's a couple pics which should basically tell you to get this book too. Perfect quality build... sewn binding, lies flat from the first page, slightly larger than a deluxe sized book. The art is almost the same size as the French editions, so well done! I guess the only thing that they could have improved on was add a few extra pages with extra's. Then again the price of this book is already a bargain as it is.
