    Aw man, I loved Wormwood

I dunno. It had its moments and I'm certainly not averse to criticism of church or religion, but it wasn't very memorable and seemed like Ennis was just trying to ridicule (institutionalised) religion as much as possible. To me it felt kinda immature because of that. Though he did similar things in Preacher, I think Wormwood is nowhere near as good. But that's just my opinion.

Ennis + Avatar = mostly s**t. Ennis Works much better with an editor that controls him a little bit.

I've read Neonomicon, which is Moore and it was published by Avatar. As I remember it was Chtulhu/Lovecraft + porn. I wasn't too impressed but maybe it was part of a bigger story, donno.

Your reply makes it seem that ridiculing institutionalized religion as much s possible is not a worthy goal in and of itself, when it clearly is. Actually, I agree with you that Wormwood is not as good as Preacher, but what is ? Ennis will never top Preacher, just like Alan Moore will never top Watchmen or Neil Gaiman will Never top Sandman.
Still Wormwood is a fun read. Now that I think of it, I actually prefer Ennis's Hitman to Preacher. I know Hitman is not as good as Preacher, but I like it more. Isnt it time for Preacher and Hitman Omni's? What was the subject again ?

Ennis is excellent when doing war comics and his Punisher run was awesome. Also loved The Boys. But his best work in recent years, I think, is Fury "My war gone by".

Have yet to read Hitman and his Hellblazer run, because I was waiting for an Omnibus. But I've given up hope and ordered the first volume of both over the weekend.

Both of the first volumes (Hitman and Hellblazer) are good, and each series gets better as it goes. Hitman is one of those series you wont want to stop reading once you start, but I don't think it really gets going until volume 2. DC is currently reprinting the Hellblazer series in new TPB editions. Each have a year or more of issues for $20 srp. The Ennis issues begin in vol. 5. I suggest you get them all, a lot of great writers worked on this series. Besides Ennis; Warren Ellis, Brian Azzarello and Jaimie Delano just to name 3

I think Ennis' strength is in the way he builds relationships/friendships among his characters. Tommy and Nat in Hitman; Cassidy and Jesse in Preacher; Butcher and Wee Hughie in the Boys; the anti-Christ and the rabbit in Wormwood (Ha - I had to throw that one in); and, Hell, his early stuff like Troubled Souls. It's all about the value of friendships.

That said, he writes a bad ass war comics and THE BEST Punisher ever!

I envy you who have not read his Hitman or Hellblazer and are now getting to dip into it for the first time.

All this mention of Hellblazer is making me cave... I so want to start the series, but I just can't bring myself to invest in the TPB's.

i hope it is, but I don't know if that's the litmus test. Arrow has superb ratings and there's no omnibus editions out there, and Grell's run would make for a great one.
