But yeah, I love these special editions. Sadly we don't have the Gaston or Spirou special/"Artist's Edition"-type ones that you have in France (awesome blog, btw.).

Speaking of which, I was wondering if those are done from the original art pages (like IDWs AEs) and if so, how it can be that there are complete sets of original pages of any seminal and famous work like Asterix or by Franquin. Do the pages belong to the publisher? I know that IDW is often having a hard time publishing an AE because in many cases pages have been sold and can often not be located.
I was refering to this collection http://www.amazon.fr/Lint%C3%A9grale...eywords=uderzo, with volume two out this month.
From Gaston #8 it is indeed a coloured scan process for the original pages (it's the same for Spirou starting with QRN). In french it's referred as "fac similés". Like the Hellboy IDW AE, if the original pages are untraceable, they used plain B&W reproduction from the films. For Franquin it's a long process to gather these pages and they only publish a volume once a year in the best of cases. For Uderzo I have seen somewhere that he has kept all of his original work (but all the pages from one of the asterix album has been stolen), so it will be easier to publish this material, although this treasure hasn't been exploited yet.

Wouldn't it be better to buy the german HC edition from Hellblazer? There's still no english OHC and that's a shame. I recently bought the german Preacher HC and they're really nice. I believe Hellblazer have the same quality.
By complete you mean including the last one by Uderzo, "Gallien in Gefahr"? They are indeed, though handlettering would've been even nicer.

Uzumaki looks and sounds absolutely weird. Looking forward to it.

Hell no! I'm not gonna buy any German translation of an English book, especially one by Ennis. I don't even want to know what they did with all the different English accents. I'd rather buy a miniature English-language version.

While we're on the subject: I'd love to be able to read BD in their original French, but I'm afraid half a year of French in 9th grade won't be much use here.

Just checked Amazon and I cannot find a German version of those. Could be because they are not purely Asterix-based, but perhaps they will be published at some point.

Then it's the same as in the US apparently. Luckily there's people like Mazzucchelli or Simonson who keep almost all of their original artwork - or at least high-res scans of it. If that is true about Uderzo, then that is a potential goldmine - as long as Uderzo's children won't somehow get in the way again. Do you know if the Asterix Deluxe books reprint the art at the actual size of the original pages?

I will HAVE to buy "Gallien in Gefahr" when it's been released (appearently they prepare "Obelix feiert Geburtstag"& "das goldene Buch" in Ultimative as well, so that makes it 4 more books with "the picts")...it's hard to be a completist sometimes. I think that Preacher has been translated quite well, though I didn't compare both versions. But you have a point. Only english comics I bought in german where the Library Edition from Carl Barks and Don Rosa (these are awesome edition and Fuchs' translation is probably better than the original), Prinz Eisenherz (great german edition and I just started collecting comics back in 2007 so I was not thinking too much at the time), Preacher (english HC partly OOP) and Metropolitan (because they only announced the Absolutes a few weeks ago and there was no HC) :-)
Reading: Batman by Morrison, Death note, Inhumans, Sleeper
The plural of Omnibus is Omniboo

Wouldn't say that the translations of the Barks books are necessarily better. I have a couple of the German library editions but also all of the Fantagraphics ones and I much prefer the latter - even if they are (regrettably) smaller.

The Prince Valiant books look great (the publisher is my old, favourite comic shop in Bonn; plus my English literature professor is involved in the publication - so I have to promote them, even if I'm not into Prince Valiant).

I was also about start buying Transmet in trades. Luckily I held out just long enough.

I don't know for sure but I doubt it as I imagine that every artist back then would work on the same page size (Franquin's Gaston fac-simile are much larger than these deluxe Asterix).

Amazon.com (and book depository for that matter) often offer preorder of Huminoid books only to never actually receive any stock. By the time they finally admit it to you it's also often sold out in most places. Amazon.co.uk seems a little more reliable in this regard. But basically, if you want a Huminoids book, don't preorder with Amazon.com or book depository.

SpeedyHen are my go-to for Humanoids books. They've even managed to come through on a few back orders on books that seemed out of print at first glance.
