My first little order since before last Xmas. Long story...
But anyway, these arrived from Amazon today and wonder of wonders, they were actually reasonably well-packed! The books are in perfect shape. Beautiful books. Just really pleasing things to behold. The Sixth Gun books I think might be the nicest books I own...
Man, those Goon books are gorgeous. I still need to pick up 2 and 3.
How's the Sixth Gun? I've always heard good things, but the Marvel stuff I've read from Bunn never impressed me.
I tried buying a Sixth Gun Deluxe HC from Amazon. Arrived three times, sent it back three times, then I just bought it from IST. Massive impact damage to the spine or corners each time. I mean massive. Amazon is just rolling dice when it ships collectable books. So wasteful. It's not like they need to use extra packaging when they ship all books (mass market paperbacks and hardcovers are most of their book business and ship fine as is), just certain ones. Like just make a policy specifically for oversize comic collected editions books (and hell, trades too) or just all books over a certain dollar amount. Don't tell me they don't do enough business with these and don't have enough product loss and lost sales from experienced collectors to make it worth it. Someone who buys these collected editions will eventually get a job there and save the company a lot of money and bring a lot of business back.
Makes me a little mad, to be honest.
Anyway, looks like you got lucky with their shipping on some big, very heavy books. I'm glad.
Honestly, I've had very good luck (I guess) with Amazon. I've ordered tons of books from them over the past few years (I'm in Canada so options are limited really) and only had a couple of them arrive damaged. They aren't always packed great - usually just good enough, but like I say I guess I've been lucky...
Here I gathered some interesting solicitations from some publishers:

On sale Jan 25
FC, 48 pages
$17.99
HC, 7" x 10"
A celebrated send-up of gothic literature, beautifully adapted into a dark, brooding, and oddly comical graphic novel. Somewhere in the night, a raven caws, an author's pen scratches, and thunder claps. The author wants to write nonfiction: stories about frail women in white nightgowns, mysterious bumps in the night, and the undead rising to collect old debts. But he keeps getting interrupted by the everyday annoyances of talking ravens, duels to the death, and his sinister butler.
• Shane Oakley beautifully illustrates New York Times best-selling author Neil Gaiman's satirical tale.

Yeah to me Sixth Gun is sort of a modern day golden age comic. It has a real classic feel...
