Sorry that you didn't like Local, Balakin - it's one of my favourites!

I might just go for the single saga volumes. They seem cheap enough.

I actually knew that and partially because of that I was looking forward to it.
To be fair I've just read Scott Pilgrim again and just wanted something slice of life so went for Local but it had the massive disadvantage of not being Scott Pilgrim (and by the gods do I love SP!)
Reading Sex criminals now ,that's a much better substitute.

I was hoping an omnibus would come along soon but if DC are doing absolutes firsts, it could be a while until they do an omnibus. I'll probably to pick up the TPBs.

It'll be a cold day in hell before I spend that much money on such limited content. The TPBs collectively contain more and are much cheaper.

The Absolute is a premium hardcover. You're getting the material in an oversized larger format than an Omnibus and also it comes in a Slipcase. I'm not a collector of Absolutes as I prefer Omnibuses and Deluxe OHCs BUT I do have 8 Absolutes as I believe certain stories such as All-Star Superman, DC: The New Frontier and Batman: The Long Halloween deserve the Absolute treatment. They're quite stunning to look at.

I don't think that I've read any Scott Pilgrim, but I keep hearing how good it is...

Exactly. I am planning on upgrading ST from trades to Absolute when I have the chance.
When its something I know I like I am more then willing to spend the money. The oversized art and binding alone makes the money difference worth it. For a blind buy it might not be worth it, but for something I know I like I will gladly do it. Like I did with Sandman.

    Duuuuuude...you should totally read it!
You can get all 6 black and white volumes probably under £20.
They are manga sized and read like a manga (so it's not wordy, action scenes take up pages with a few panels but it reads from left to right) and was originally published in B&w. The coloured hcs are a bit bigger and well...hcs and coloured but they cost like £15 each. But the colours look great.
The whole story is 6 volumes altogether and I'm pretty sure you would enjoy it a lot!

Hmm. I see the reasoning, but I am only interested in the story. I can get the entire Moore run for £55-£60 as opposed to spending 99 dollars roughly 75 pounds on much less of the 'story'. Unless I am reading wrong, the OHC does not have the entire story.

Some stories are worth the absolute treatment. For me its the difference maybe between watching a movie on a 20 inch tv or a 60in tv. its the same movie but presented differently. For stuff you just want to check out, going absolute may not be the best investment especially if you are on a budget. For that trades are great (or digital especially if you dont think you will re read something).

Sadly I do have a budget and I'm trying to be clever in how I buy books. I managed to snap 4 out of 6 TPBs of Swamp Thing used for £35.

Nothing wrong with that! Thats being smart with money. I wanted an omnibus of moores swamp thing. Absolutes for that is a 3-4 book investment. Thats a lot of money. I toyed with idea of the dc golden age material. I decided I didnt want the added cost. I may read that digitally at some point.
