Post General omnibus & hardcover discussion vol. II

The previous general omnibus and hardcover discussion thread never really had a beginning, so alas here is a new beginning...

The purpose of this thread is to talk about hardcover collected editions from all independent publishers. Post about your latest purchases, upcoming releases, your collection, questions on what to buy and what not to buy.

If you wan to talk DC or Marvel collected hardcover editions please take a look at:
    DC: http://community.comicbookresources....ditions-Part-3
    Marvel: http://community.comicbookresources....ected-Editions

    Upcoming releases
With so many titles coming out every week and release dates changing all the time it's almost impossible to keep this page up to date. So check this link to see what hardcovers are out this week. Once there you can click on next week and the week after etc. https://pulllist.comixology.com/thisweek/?f=HARD+COVER

What oversized hardcovers have been published?
Massive thanks to Kalitarix for putting this list together.

I'm glad you've brought this thread back, Martin. The last one was a great resource for readers looking to try Euro comics, manga, and pretty much anything outside the norm in the N American market. I hope the same community will come back, and this thread is as active the last.

    Well, I'll throw in!

I just finished reading "Everybody Loves Tank Girl," by Alan Martin and Jim Mahfood.

At first, I was disappointed because it's not one long story, it's a series of sometimes very short (as short as one page) stories. But there is one story that runs through all three issues that are collected here, and as I got into the book more, I was laughing my way through the rest of it. Also, I'm a big fan of Jim Mahfood's art, and he's a little more focused here than he sometimes is. Since it's not really his character, I was okay with that, and thought he did a great job.

I really hope so too. I was debating whether to revive this thread here or in the independent forums, but alas it's here now, but if the mods want to move it they're free to. I'm sure all the usual suspects will be back because all that posted here were great peeps and enjoyed sharing comics knowledge.

So everything's gone? Because some idiots who ruined it for everyone else? Unbelievable!

Anyway, thanks Martin for reviving the thread.

Got Foligatto today. Beautiful book. Didn't think it was that big. But I'm actually even more excited about the next Barks Library Edition that Amazon just shipped. Should be here on Friday.

I have the big slipcase Tank Girl hardcover, but haven't cracked it open yet. With all the cutting back on spending I've done, I will still probably never catch up to the material I have and the material I continue to buy annually.

You'd prolly get more traffic that way actually. It took me a few months of posting in the Marvel one exclusively plus lurking forever before joining to even find the old discussion.

I've been holding out for the 12-issue Daredevil HCs. I wish Marvel would do more of those.

Sorry if this is slightly off-topic, but seeing MartinNL's "How to Open a New Book" image reminded me of 2 things I've been wondering about...
    1. Keeping Your Books Shrink-Wrapped? - I understand why some people are inclined to keep books shrink-wrapped (either protection over time, or "proof-as-new" on auction sites), but I've always been under the impression the the plastic used in the wrap contains the same bad acids as cheap comic bags (the same applies to keeping comics poly-bagged). Therefore, isn't keeping a book in its shrink-wrap bad for the book?
    2. Dust-Jacket Protection - My local antiquarian book shop just turned me on to mylar dust jacket protectors (for Google's sake, search for brodart just-a-fold as an example). They use it for "regular books," but it seems an ideal and fairly economical way to provide better long-term protection for dust jackets of graphic novels as well (and maybe better resale). Does anybody have experience with this... or other recommendations for hard cover storage?

The shrinkwrap may be bad long term, but it would be REALLY long term, and could take a decade or longer to cause any damage.

I'm not sure exactly what the Mylar dust jacket is, but I know all the used trades I buy that came from libraries have some sort of adhesive backed clear plastic cover on them. It's not removable. It does make the softcover trades way more durable. I don't mind it, but a collector might have a problem with it, so I doubt it helps resale. But it will keep your trades from looking tattered after a few reads if you plan on keeping them, or even if you plan on selling them, as long as you're not looking for the crazy out of print collectors prices some trades go for.
