Default Would a weekly series set in the rest of the DCU work?

Not one based around a massive event like Futures End and World's End, but more along the lines of Batman Eternal but with the rest of the population of the DCU. DC did a great job with a similar setting with their 52 in that it focused on a fairly small group of characters and how they intersected with other heroes and occasionally each other. Eternal is doing a similarly great job within the Bat-community. Would such a title work on a regular basis with others of the DCU and should it be a finite set of characters or should it just wander around the DCU? It could be a fantastic way to explore lesser known characters alongside some more well known/popular ones.

It would be an editorial nightmare if it had any overlap with current on-going books unless you had only titles handled by one editorial division involved. (And DC has enough problems as it is with keeping track of what's happening with other titles / other characters.)

I've thought something like this (not necessarily weekly) would be good for the Wildstorm characters. The series follows them around, jumping around between them rather like Earth 2 does its characters. The story would be taking place on the main DC Earth, but just so happens to only focus in on the Wildstorm-originating characters. There's no structural reason that Batman doesn't show up, it just happens that he never does.

A Weekly book for the Wildstorm characters would be perfect since they are, almost to a man, completely unused in the greater DCU (Future's End uses a few and one popped up in Grayson but other than that, nothing). It would be awesome to really see a book dive into those heroes and make them special again.

DC should just knuckle down and make Green Lantern a weekly title while they are at it.

Doing something similar with Teen characters could be awesome. Take a bunch of teen heroes and put them in the same city. Why are they there? Some happened to be drifting through, some were visiting relatives, some lived there and some were moving there. Make it a really "happening" place that could attract lots of teens.

An alien race starts an incursion and spreads small teams across the city. Groups of these teen heroes, through happenstance and chance, meet up and combine their efforts in repelling the aliens. After the event, everyone realizes that there are actually three or four groups of heroes who were all fighting in different parts of town. Everyone decides to get together and have a meet and greet. Drama ensues and cliques are formed, which quickly evolve into teams of heroes. Now this city has four or five different teen teams running around.

Think of it as the opposite of the Justice League. Alien invasion, heroes get together and form the Justice League. In this, the heroes repel the invasion, then form five Justice Leagues. The weekly title would be about how the teams interact with one another in a city that needs saving (like two teams show up to combat the same threat but the teams loathe one another) and how interpersonal relationships can force people to change sectarian affiliations (two heroes from two teams fall in love, how do they deal with the drama of their factions who hate one another?). Basically, get a bunch of teen heroes together, add in a lot of super heroics, big personalities, testosterone, love and angst and see what happens.

Yes, as long as it doesn't cross over with the monthly titles and stays its own thing. Instead of three or four monthly Superman titles just fold the creative teams into a weekly.

Yeah, Green Lantern would be perfect for a weekly title.

Dc will probably do more weekly comics for superheroes who can't support a monthly title : wildstorm, charlton, quality, fawcett, milestone, etc. Can also do weekly comics by theme : space, magic, villains, government groups, etc.

But if they can't sell as a monthly title, who the hell is going to shell out for four or five issues a month? You're talking like $2.99 a month vs. $11.96 or $14.95 a month!

Dc seems to be marketing the weeklies by involving Batman and Superman plus the ever reliable big events. Various crises can easily be done as weeklies.

You combine niche fandoms into something resembling the number of fans that exist for larger properties.
