Ok that's freakin blatantly Peter Parker and while out of context among the other images it's definitely problematic. What on Earth has Peter Parker unmasked here?

That spell thing worked for his identity sure, but people have found out since Civil War. Miles, MJ, Prowler, Miguel still knows, Otto, Eddie Brock, Carnage through Ben Reilly (it retained memories of its time with him), I'm pretty sure Kingpin knows, Kaine and Ben both obviously know and so did Kaine's pals to a degree in Houston, so what is Peter doing unmasked here and in public?

The editor is asleep at wheel.

He publicly masqueraded as Spidey as far back as ASM #12 so that much is definitely a part of his history.

True, though that was decades ago and wasn't as public as the Civil War unmasking, which would probably stay with people longer then one random kid getting unmasked as a fake Spider-Man by Doc Ock.

Well, not "decades ago" in Marvel time. More like a few years.

On his Twitter, Bendis just replied to someone asking if people just found out that Peter Parker was Spidey again with "Looks like a Picture from a kick ass costume party for rich people."

Works for me. Although it is going to nag at me what story I was thinking of earlier dealing with Peter being unmasked. Ah well...

Well, they couldn't figure out for themselves that Tony Stark and his armored bodyguard were one and the same so, yes, they're not terribly good at putting two and two together.

And the citizens of the DCU aren't any brighter when it comes to spotting the obvious. So I guess superheroes are just lucky that way!

Like I said, thank goodness .

(Although sometimes the idiocy of the MU citizens really puts the heroes in a bind).

Everyone who was on the New Avengers in Dark Reign knows Peter's identity - which includes three of the Defenders (did Daredevil also find out when he was on the Heroic Age version of the team?). The Fantastic Four also know.

And yeah, that page should've been redrawn, editor didn't do his job.

I think it was Spider-Island. Pete unmasked and claimed he was one of the people infected with the virus. This weakened Strange's spell as well.

I know it was probably a artist goof and the editor didn't catch it but it's almost poetic a continuity goof like this would happen in a Bendis book

I don't think it was a goof at all. I think it was probably called for in the script. I think Bendis wanted it in there as a nod to that part of Tony's history and felt that there would be a multitude of ways to explain the image without it being a continuity snafu. His Twitter reply, for example, was obviously humorous but it also functions perfectly well as a legit explanation.

Is it just me or has the hype for Invincible Iron Man #593 completely fizzled out?

I've been looking around online and nobody is talking about this book. Heck, at the time of this post Comic Book Roundup hasn't even found any reviews for it. While in the news there's a couple of articles about the editorial screw up but no commentary about the 'revelations' revealed so far in the story.

It will be curious to see the sales figures for this month. There was the expectation that there might've been a bump in sales, by combining the readership of Invincible and Infamous. I'm starting to think the opposite might be true, the renumbering and lack of a firm direction has killed whatever interest Marvel garnered by replacing Tony Stark last year.

I'm sure IM will continue to do well.

I mean, seriously. The book has maintained consistent sales over an extended period with Riri and A.I. Tony. And Doom's book was well-received so an uptick with Tony on the road back seems inevitable. At the very least, IM is going to continue to hold steady so don't worry about it.

Also, don't look to something as nebulous as online hype to determine whether a book is doing well or not.
