Pretty much, their spin off plans got shot to sh!t

Something strikes me as odd about that.

When Spider Man 2 came out they were all patting themselves on the back and guys like me who hated the thing
were but a vocal minority. And bottom line, the flick did make lots of money.

Now its almost like Sony themselves consider Spider Man 2 a failure and I'm wondering why.

And the only thing I can think of is that they must havd expected more buzz for their spinoff plans which were regarded with either indifference or hysterical laughter.

I just...I dunno. I think all Sony has is their pride at this point. After two failed movies and bad publicity for SPidey before the hack AND after, Marvel is like a magic bullet.

It just seems like there is a malaise about these movies despite the profits from the execs all the way down to the fans.

And the really funny part is that Scott is defending his casting choices by saying "This is a really important story, and I had to play ball in order to get it made," y'know, trying to make himself sound like an auteur who's only doing it out of love for storytelling, but if you take a look at his finances via celebrity net worth, this dude is rich. He could have financed most of the flick himself and had final say over everything, but he didn't because he just wanted to get paid, the same as everyone else. George Lucas turned into a pretty bad director towards the end, but at least he put his money where his mouth is.

Generally when the leads are people of color but in this case a prime example is Pacific Rim, made bank in the theater but viewed by WB/Legendary as a failure until the DVD/blu ray sold gangbusters and even then got a sequel greenlit some time later.

Whatever do you mean? Lucas produced a bunch of weird art house indie flicks like Powaqqatsi, twice upon a time, Mishima, and leprechaun (yeah, the one with the killer Leprechaun), throughout the 80's and 90's. He's also known for quietly financing indies without taking a production credit. You know he wanted David Lynch to direct Return of the Jedi, right? Lucas is an odd little artist in love with french impressionism. It's just his crap luck that he'll always be known as the guy who invented Jar-Jar.

The Crap that's going on with Earth 2 is exactly one of the reasons why I'm making my own comics, I'm tired of minority heroes being treated as
second rated who are meant to be jobbers for their standardize counterparts to take over. It's ridiculous.
