Yeah Schism did not make the boards that much worse I dont think. The X-Boards have been a battleground for a long time.

Ehh, maybe it's just me then. I do think the boards have always been "bad" or rather "spirited" for a lack of a better term, but I do feel that the Schism has really taken the nastiness and negative tone of the board to another level. If the forum was a 6 before, it feels like it's a 10 now. At least for me. Maybe I'm being naive, but I personally really do think that once the X-men are united again and not hating each other, that a lot of this stuff is gonna simmer down to more tolerable levels that I'm comfortable with.

No, I agree with you that Schism took the animosity around here to new heights...but I think it's a bell you can't unring...no matter how Schism is ultimately resolved in the books, there will still be people blaming one character or other for it and probably more people upset by how it will end because inevitably some character(s) will be viewed as getting the shaft or getting a free pass.

That said, if Marvel didn't concentrate so much on hero vs. hero plotlines that usually make both sides look bad, fans wouldn't be so divided.

I actually think Schism backfired. Why would Marvel have assigned so many books to the gold side if they weren't expecting it to win out? I think fan reception turned the tide in how the X-Men were approached post-AvX. As one user put it definitely was an egg on the face moment for some. Also I think the forum is rather tame lately...relatively speaking.

It actually is much tamer now the rules have gotten much stricter compared to how it was 4 or 5 years ago. Some of the insults used to be incredibly personal, ex wives, dead dogs etc. Porn and topics about X-23 getting fisted by Galactus.

Most of it is what happens when you have a forum full of character fans rather than general fans. Imagine putting fans of various sport teams from a single league in one forum together.

You're being too kind. Jason Aaron accidentally engineered a Jigsaw trap and the Schism's early supporters enthusiastically strapped themselves to it.

Yes. Good god, yes. Schism was and is completely and utterly awful. It was poorly imagined, poorly plotted, poorly executed, everything about it is bad.

It created a totally forced rift between the X-Men and turned the vast majority of them into unreasonable, hateful asshats.

It's not entertaining. Not in the least. And if it's not entertaining, it needs to go. If anything good comes out of the dreck that is AXIS, it'll be X-Nation and the dissolution of Schism.

It seems like only way out for Wolverine is in the Legacy series.Remember they said there was a control word so maybe they would say Wolverine was somehow controled.

And everytime that it seems its more than enough, they say stuff like "we haven't seen the end of it", "further factions", etc.

I personally think it should have been Kurt who should have lead Schism while Storm was in Wakanda instead of killing him since he was the one who was actually shown to have reservations about Utopia before any other X-Man. This was reflected in Second Coming when he was shown to actually be angry at Scott before he died unlike the other X-Men. Kurt was actually there for a lot of stuff - Ororo just walking in would have looked odd to me. Her coming in later with Kurts request for help would have been an definite awesome. So I would have been all for Scott and Logan vs. Kurt and Ororo and it would have not had Logan look foolish with his 180 degree turn into being hypocritical and contradictory.

No offense to Nightcrawler fans (I am one myself) but he doesn't have the gravitas to lead the Schism like this and, even though he's beloved by most of the X-Men, I couldn't see a large number of them following him...at least Wolverine had the weight of massive popularity on his side...Kurt wouldn't have even had that (he's popular but no where near that level)...Xavier himself actually would have been the most believable leader of the split but that wouldn't have worked like they wanted in setting up a new Xavier/Magneto style conflict if it involved either of the originals.

But the X-Men arent comic fans they are his teamates and they respect him. I dont believe on making decisions based on popularity, look at what they did with Wolverine, by that note that would exclude Xavier who is one of the X-Mens most hated characters now. He would have made the most sense as they were building up Kurts reseravtions towards Scotts ideas. Storm wasnt born THE leader, Claremont just made her it and went from there. C'mon, lets try to have more imagination here. People complain about using characters for popularity reasons only then they complain that the character isnt big enough. Characters dont just come that way they are nurtured and evolve. Its attitudes like this that keeps things stagnant IMHO. May I ask why you dont see them following him? Because I see that they would.

I just wonder if it went in the direction the way it was intended or if it has gone on longer than expected. It could have led to some excellent storytelling but it seemed more like a way to end up with the 2 "leads" peeling on one another's corner. Some characters waffles too much and the JGS under Wolverine was the biggest misstep. They really should have changed the role Cyclops and James played and I think it would have been much better.

I would prefer they make choices for what makes sense story-wise too but character popularity and fan perception are always going to be a factor...I'm also all in favor to new characters taking on leadership roles when it makes sense (as Nightcrawler had before in Excalibur)...but I just don't see him as a strong enough foil to Cyclops to really sell it...now, I could maybe believe Kurt's death being a motivator for a faction splitting off (although that would be a hard sell too given that he died saving Hope and that was what Scott was all about at that point) but I can't see him leading it...and, controversial as he may be, no one can deny Xavier is still a huge name in the franchise both in and out of the comics.

But, as I said in another post, despite the Schism being an interesting idea in theory, I don't see any way they really could have pulled it off and made it work...there's a big down side to every proposed alternative that has come up here...now, if JEAN was still around and somehow she ended up leading the other side of the Schism, THAT might have been the best way to pull it off...having her and Cyke on opposing sides would have had the added drama and it also could have prevented it from just devolving into the huge hatefest (because I can't see those two EVER really hating each other)...but that ship has sailed and, even if they brought her back in the next issue, it would be too little, too late to make that work.

-The whole thing is really one-sided. It's basically the Gold Team hating Scott while Scott just does his own think and doesn't give a damn.
-It's just run it's course by this point and needs to end.

Could the idea have worked, yes. But Marvel bungled it really badly from the very beginning.
I agree completely. Schism was unneeded. Wolverine is my favorite but Schism makes no sense. As you, said kids are what began the X men
