Default Batman & Son to R.I.P (2006-2009) / Read through and Opinions

So I just got around to reading the Batman & Son Mega arc. My friend gave me a good chunk of the books to read. Starting with "The Black Glove Deluxe Edition" I've enjoyed it very much. The beginning with the introduction of Damien, and then leading into these 3 Batman imposters. I'm enjoying it so much. If it keeps up at this pace, and call me prisoner of the moment, it could usurp The Dark Knight Returns as my favorite Batman story.

The Batman RIP trade is next, and I should have that done by Thursday or Friday.

Your opinions on the overall story?

Wait, did you miss reading the actual book Batman and Son? Because that comes before The Black Glove.

The best is yet to come. Wait till you get to Grant's Batman & Robin.

I think, I'm hoping, I read it in the Deluxe edition. Bruce visits somewhere, runs into Langstrom, Talia dumps his son off on Bruce, Damien fights drake, and so on?

    That'd be it then.

It's sloppily paced, written haphazardly and hastily, and is full of terrible, unnecessary ideas that crippled the Bat line for years.

    So yeah, not a fan.

Yeah Morrison's full run is easily one of my favorite Batman stories ever. It gets even better too, just keep going.

Post Grant Morrison's Batman & Son to R.I.P. (655-683, July '06 to Dec '08) / What is your verdict?

It's been almost eight years since issue #655. Introducing Damian Wayne, and many other cerebral reads along the way. What did you all think about Grant Morrison's initial Batman run?

I admire the ambition, but the stories themselves were terribly written mounds of garbage.

One of my least favorite runs for a Batbook ever.

Other than the "Black Glove" arc, which was excellent, I'd rate it around a 3.5. Morrison's Bat-run really didn't start working for me until Return of Bruce Wayne.

Its a brilliant run. Tightly paced, wonderfully plotted and full of fun, zany ideas. Its a shame other writers couldn't follow after that well.

    5*

Without a doubt one of the best Batman stories written.

This part of the run was underwhelming to me:

Batman and Son was alright, but rather abrupt. Andy Kubert's artwork is okay.
The Clown at Midnight is not a real comic book and almost entirely worthless upon my rereading of the series, causing me to always end up skipping it. Also, the artwork is atrocious.
Three Ghosts of Batman was rather unremarkable and quite forgettable.
Batman 666 is something I also normally skip over since it does not have an impact on the story and I don't find it all that interesting.
The Black Glove is the best part of the initial first third of the series with probably the best artist as well. Though J.H. Williams III work here is probably the weakest I ever seen from him.
The Conclusion for Three Ghosts of Batman. Better but still didn't impressive me that much and the artwork didn't help. Just so boring and generic.
RIP was a pretty weak all around. Unremarkable artwork, flat ending that just kind of stops, villains that I couldn't take seriously, a middle that just dragged on and at points took me out of the story, and the fact it just felt anti-climatic.
Last Rites is something I could care less about. Just leaves no impression on me and is something I always end up skipping. Plus, it connects more with Final Crisis, an event I could care even less about.

Ultimately, this part of the story is a chore to get through, though not as bad when things reach Batman Incorporated and has its occasional good moments.
