Default Whats the story with the creation of the Universe (In DC)

I'm curious because with the recent Nu52 run Green Lantern run it's shown that there was a massive hand creating the universe when that mysterious space man tried to witness how it everything was created.

One of the Pre-COIE Superman comics, specifically when Braniac under goes a change of pure energy and travels to every planet and through all of time, he also witnesses the same hand. Its also implied that Superman has some unknown part in all this, with this all knowing being. The same thing is implied that everything somehow ties to Superman in the DC universe when the later Infinite Crisis occurs.

I'm sure its a nod to Superman being the first, but I wonder if this has ever been seen or explained in any other books. Maybe some of the more mystic books like Dr. Fate or Spectre and such.

And don't forget, at one point Damage (Grant Emerson) was responsible for the "Big Bang".

Interesting, whats the story behind those panels? Is it really implying thats the start of the Universe?

I've not read all of Zero Hour.

The hand is Superman powering up the Miracle Machine with his stored solar energy in Final Crisis #7.

    Interesting.

Some of this ties into Miracle Machine introduced back in 1968. The first instance of "The Hand" I've seen is in 1983 Action Comics 544, though I'm sure its appeared before that.

So that means in that issue, while Braniac was under going his transformation, he either witnessed a false creation of the universe, or thats how its 'always worked'. Of course before any of the big events and in the Nu52.

    What the Krona fellow viewed in GL falls along the same lines involving Volthoom (the astronaut). Luckily google had the images;

Interestingly enough V(u)lthoom was the person who gave an the evil Green Lantern (Power Ring) his ring in JLA 24, 1964 which defeated Superman. Though he's never shown.

Volthoom himself in the Nu52 being a time traveler in the Nu52. And Krona ultimately being responsible for the multiverse through his actions. Now the question is who does the hand belong to.

The hand first appeared in 1965's Green Lantern #40, by John Broome and Gil Kane. This was also Krona's debut.

I looked at the cover of GL 40 and I remember buying a beat up copy many years ago at a convention bec. I liked seeing Alan Scott on the cover.

The hand is no one and everyone capable of messing with the start of time,
During COIE the hand was Spectre's, in Wrath of the first Lantern the hand was Volthoom, the only common factor is Krona is always there to witness a hand.

Kyle will probably be the next hand before Batmite ever get a chance.

The mysteries of the universe have been birthed within my mind.

The White Lantern Kyle seems interesting. Was thinking of picking up the book just to check that out. But GL's a bit boring a times.
