It's fairly apparent that the market or something up here in Canada (I'm sure it relates to the strength of the cdn dollar relative to US currency too of course) has changed over the past year or so because neither Amazon or Indigo seem to offer very many sales on books anymore. A couple years ago the markdowns Amazon regularly had were crazy! I've been buying from the secondary/used market on Amazon a lot recently and have gotten some good deals but there hasn't been much in the way of general sales in months...and usually it's only 8% off when there has been.

Honestly , at this point amazon.ca and indigo / chapters so called deals as so pathetic they can't even compete with my two lcs in my area , ( one offers monthly 20 to 30 % sales on the u.s price point and the other offers occasional 50 to 80 % off the u.s prices) I d rather put money in the hands of my local little guy (and actually save money on my comics mind you!) Then lose money with these big corporations! These fake Canadian retail prices are insane!

that's not the case where I am. My LCS sells books at American cover price PLUS 30%! lol...It doesn't work out to anything close to Amazon's regular pricing. So it's still Amazon for me...

Aww that sucks. I feel for ya. If they're not offering discounts on the U.S price that probably means they're not getting enough traffic in their shop or they're really greedy. I know of another shop in my area that's in a big mall and the owner owns another store outside the mall. The one outside the mall sells floppies at U.S retail price and sometimes has a discount on that price and his store in the mall actually does the opposite ...he charges 5.25 to 6.50 on floppies because he has to pay high rent in the mall. I refuse to shop there quite frankly. It's all crazy, our dollar is low bt it's not that low. Amazon and indigo (online ) really should be competing better. Heck it's sometimes cheaper to order from Amazon.com and pay the difference and shipping on some products like omnis and sometimes when items are discounted.

Yeah I'm with you on that one lol, it's so hard to get good deals in Canada. I'm trying to hold off and wait for like a 15-25% off coupon before I buy too much. I'll probably have to wait until black friday for that though.

Is it true that every once in while there are promo codes for amazon.ca gift cards? Or is that what you are talking about? Honestly right now amazon can't compete with my lcs unless there's some sort of major discount.

Last black friday there was a promo code for 25% off all books; I bought a ton of comics with that code. I walked into my local comic shop and asked how much it would cost to buy a hardcover I was interested in, they said take Amazon.ca price and add 30%. I laughed and walked out and never returned, for me Amazon.ca is all I've got.

From what I hear the promo codes for gift cards can only be used once, and it's something like buy a $50 gift card get an extra $10. It would be a lot more appealing if it could be used multiple times.

Like Ipodwithnomusic, my LCS is always US cover plus 30%, which in no way competes even with Amazon's non-sale pricing which is usually at least 15% off. And I disagree that there's "no winning" with Amazon.ca. They don't have the constant 20% or more off sales they used to, but you can still find good deals if you pay attention...

Yep. They even have a policy where if you don't find what you're looking for they'll order it for you and give it to you with the 80% discount. I'm not gonna lie I'm a cheap bastard and have been guilty for waiting for these sales 3 or 4 times a year and buying all my comics during those periods. This is their Facebook page. It's the best place to keep you update on a upcoming sales. I'm a little north of these guys but their sales are well worth the trek!.
