Default Is it really necessary to read all the tie-ins to Infinity?

I remember reading World War Hulk and thought the tie-ins were redundant but I don't want to miss out on anything crucial with Infinity.

It depends on how deep you want to go. I would suggest the Avengers Assemble and Captain Marvel tie ins since they show more of the Avengers team in space.

Edit: Oh, and Avengers and New Avengers are a part of it as well. They're built into the actual reading order.

I thought Infinity and Avengers itself were good enough personally.

What everyone else said. Avengers, New Avengers and Infinity.
The tie-ins are pretty much "Here's what our hero was up to during the invasion"

While not 'necessary', I would strongly suggest reading the Avengers Assembled issues (in addition to the mandatory Avengers and New Avengers issues).

They don't advance the plot so much as expand on the little moments, providing some much needed character viginets in a rather cut and dry story.

I actually started with New Avengers before Infinity. I'll check out Avengers as well since it seems to be important. Thanks all for the quick responses.

The word you're looking for is vignettes

A lot of marvel events are supposed to be designed so that you can read the core book by itself.

Infinity is less so than a lot of other marvel books. I do think Avengers and New Avengers, as many others have stated, are mandatory reading. but the rest are skippable. Not that there's a lot outside of Avengers and New Avengers.
