When it comes down to RWBY I feel there is a fundamental misunderstanding many people have, about the shows strengths and what it does wrong.

People often complain about Miles and Kerry's lack of subtlety, but in my opinion they actualy have the opposite problem. Miles and Kerry are actualy quite good a the more subtle stuff (and have allways been good at it), were they usually come up short is the more overt developments and plot advancements and while they have improved a lot in this regard it does still trip them up, a fair amount of the time.

Case in point Ruby, she actualy has had a lot more character growth, than people give her credit for. But pretty much all of that is conveyed purely through little nuinces in her character and M&K seem unable (or are perhaps unwilling) to write more overt character growth and development for her. There are many other example throughout RWBY (especially in the first two volumes) were they nail the subtle stuff but come short when it comes to more overt aspects of the story
