Not completely accurate. Eggman actually managed to take over the planet at the end of Sonic:Brotherhood while Sonic and his crew were dealing with another major threat in another dimension, leaving the story of that game at cliffhanger. Fans are even speculating if Sonic Forces is the continuation of Brotherhood's ending (though I doubt it).
