LATINO & HISPANIC Marvel Characters Appreciation

Along the same lines of the LGBT Marvel Characters thread (http://community.comicbookresources....s-Appreciation); I wanted to create a thread for a minority at Marvel so often overlooked: latino & Hispanic. So here's the thread, hopefully it can help support and champion latino & Hispanic heroes (male and female). To be clear This is an APPRECIATION thread, if you are not appreciating then this is not the place for you. I’ll try to update the thread each time we have a new latino or Hispanic character revealed in comics; and keep the OP list updated as best I can.

As always, HUGE apologies if your favourite is not in the poll; I am but a man, flaws and all. Also, if anyone has a link to a cool picture with a lot of latino heroes, please send it so it can go up.

Anyway,

Hummingbird (Aracely Penalba, short of María Aracely Josefina Penalba de las Heras).

Demigod, mortal reincarnation (?) of Huitzilopochtli, "Hummingbird on the South", Aztec god of War, human sacrifice, the Sun and a lot of weird creepy stuff.

Mexican, kidnapped and brought by force to Houson, TX. Doesn't remember her past. A drug cartel run by talking Mexican werewolves and mysterious people led by a guy called the Coyote or Mr. Moctezuma (with even creepier powers) want her dead. The latter so Mictlan can rise (?).



Partner of Spider-man's flawed and generally angry clone, Scarlet Spider (Kaine Parker), who found her almost dead and buried in corpses inside a truck.

Full of mysteries, cheerful, optimistic (despite everything) and talkative to the point of annoyance, recently became part of New Warriors along Kaine. Has a crush on Speedball (Robbie Baldwin) of all people.



Yes, the guy who helped kickstart the whole Civil War of the Marvel Universe and later became Penance (a.k.a. becoming so full of guilt that he started to use a costume with internal spikes that tortured and teared his flesh as he walked). Why? In her own words, due his "dark, brooding self". She may be insane, in other words.

Insane or the hunger for violence, blood and sacrifice that is her heritage may be playing a part on it...

I want Hummingbird to get a series too. But a duo format ala Hawkeye with Kaine. Due their personalities, they're at their best when together. Also she is his boss!! Or at least that's the implication of a certain plot point that was touched upon in both Scarlet Spider and New Warriors.

Hummingbird would sell the best if done right have her deal with Aries or Herc for kicks.

Some of my favorites are:

a) El Aguila is the first Latino hero I was a fan of. It took me a while to warm up to Spider-Man 2099 but now I'm a big fan. I also like Dr. Cecilia Reyes, but she's wayyyy underused..
b) Cecilia Reyes. Goldballs is swiftly becoming a favorite, too.
c) Black Tarantula! I miss him, and wouldn't mind seeing him and Angela Del Toro/White Tiger (whatever happened to her?) in a Heroes for Hire book.
d) See above. Otherwise, El Aguila.
