because she's a squirrel mutant
I don't have a problem with cartoony art or non-house-style art or whatever labels people wanna stick on a particular book. For me, there's simply art I like and art I don't like. And I don't like this.
As others have said, there are good and bad example of all sorts of art, regardless of of how mainstream they may or may not be.
The art overall seems cute, but I have to agree that the character's face doesn't seem much like Doreen's, even accounting for style. It's the same issue I've had with Quitely, where while I enjoy his work overall, certain characters just don't look even remotely like themselves.
I'll pass. I'm not into "cute" comics.
I just don't think among artists who are in a more cartoon vein in their style that I would not rank this one as very good. Bruce Timm is great and so was the late Mike Wieringo, who I think would have been a very good fit for this title.
This artist hasn't captured her signature look very well from when Ditko created it. I am glad the strange racoon-ish eye markings are gone but her face just looks ...odd. Like a drunk looking Gerber Baby.

I'm consistently shocked how much hate the art gets. The book billed as a comedic all ages book looking like a bright colorful cartoon?! The very idea! Really hoping this series pulls Ms. Marvel.
I think it looks cute. I'll be getting it.
Yes, those houses are absolutely disgusting.
