Thanos Vs. Hulk #1 SPOILERS

Story takes place before Thanos: The Infinity Revelation and when Bruce Banner was still working for SHIELD.

It starts in SHIELD headquarters with Iron Man storming in and demanding that Maria Hill tell him where Bruce Banner is. She states that he needed a break and he took off on one of Captain America’s motorcycles. Suddenly, the tracking unit goes offline and once they access the drone that was eyeing Banner, it reveals Pip the Troll teleporting behind him, then sedating him, and finally teleporting away with him. They pull up Pip’s profile revealing that he was one of the founding members of Infinity Watch and had a recent stint with X-Factor. Iron Man states that a certain Mad Titan was also part of the Infinity Watch… Pip has taken Banner in a vessel with Blastaar. When Banner wakes up, he Hulk’s out to demand answers only for the cerebral disrupter attached to his head to activate and conk him out. It is revealed that the reason Pip kidnapped Banner was to rescue some bimbo named Heater and they teleport out. Meanwhile, Banner and Hulk are both in the same mindscape which is a floating purple sphere and Banner states its where he goes when Hulk takes over and Hulk states it’s Banner’s spot and that he has never been there before. Pip and Heater are now in Starlin’s Bar in deep space. Pip decides that he’s got to clear his name with the Avengers and he figures Thanos is the best person to help him and precedes to teleport to his vessel. He tells Thanos about what happened and the Titan tells him to shove off. Pip teleports away and Thanos gets his computer to analyze Annihilus’ computer systems for Hulk/Bruce Banner. He finds them listed under “Medical Research”. When he finds out that a cerebral disrupter was attached to the Hulk he comments that it provides him with a back door and muses that Annihilus has killed nearly as many as him which is why he is investigating this matter. Pip is revealed to still be in Thanos’ ship because he knew the Titan’s curiosity would get the better of him and once he knows Hulk’s location he is going to nab him. Hulk has been transported to the Negative Zone and Annihilus makes a comment about his smell. Thanos has one of his machines transfer his consciousness into the Banner’s mindscape and it ends with Thanos confronting Banner and Hulk.

“The Incredibly Malodorous Hulk” – heh, I have to admit that the line made me chuckle, but mostly because it was ANNIHILUS who said it.

Overall, a pretty decent start.

Why do I get the feeling that this could be seeds for either the Marvel Avengers Infinity War movie or a future Thanos vs the Earth Mightiest Heroes storyline in the future with Thanos having the ability to implant himself into the mind of the HULK and facing both Hulk and Banner at the same time ?

WTF?! I haven't picked this up yet, but danm that is NICE that they showed up...even if it is just as a cameo at "Starlin's".

I don't think Pip has ever been accused of being smart. To be fair, he considered Drax and Gamora and discounted them as unable to help. But yeah, he's never been the brightest crayon in the box.

Pip is both simultaneously scheming but impulsive. He's shown that he can scheme and get the jump on people at times but his rashness ultimately does him in. Like in the Infinity Crusade when he managed to figure out that the Goddess was vulnerable at a specific point and was able to surprise her and turn her to stone using the cosmic cubes but then he started to talk out loud about what he would do with ultimate power and ended up being blindsided by Silhouette and told to get professional help

WTF?! I haven't picked this up yet, but danm that is NICE that they showed up...even if it is just as a cameo at "Starlin's".

Which places the location on Knowhere, as Starlin's was introduced as a local bar there during DnA's Guardians of the Galaxy run. So it was a nice bit of continuity there (and certainly a fitting location for Drax, Quasar and the rest to be hanging out. There were a couple of other cameos, too, as I recall.)

Anything by Starlin these days is refreshing, because he can write a cosmic story without it just being another GOTG movie advertisement

Really enjoyed this a lot! Much better than Infinity Revelation.
