Ok, if we are going to do that What If, he could join Power Pack.
I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:

Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.

How are they not recognized? And how on Earth is he treated like a Gary Stu?
Keep in mind that you have about as much chance of changing my mind as I do of changing yours.

It was a fairly decent movie with a creepy creepy and weird theme song. Lon Chaney Jr. was really good in it. I don't see what that has to do with anything here though.

Congratulations! I was wondering if anyone would make this comment!

Yeah, but we have plenty of spider-babies, in the comics.

Marvel Adventures: Spider-Man is extremely underrated.

Is that really all that controversial? I've read people singing it's praises all the time.

It was a fun book. A lot of those “kiddie” books made in the 90s (I think there was one for Superman illustrated by Darwyn Cooke?) were better than they had any right to be. Sometimes better than what their more mature official canon books were doing at the time.

    Controversial?

Ben Reilley has two narrative roles he can fulfill in the modern day.

Dead or a Villain. That's it. He's been superseded by other spider characters in better and more interesting ways, so all you've got left is a heroic sacrifice or "What if Peter Parker had had enough?"

I think his poor portrayals is just symptomatic of the writers’ allergy to giving Peter supporting characters that actually support him.

Why can't they make Peter the East Coast Spider-Man and have Ben relocate to maybe California or Washington State so Ben can be the West Coast Spider-Man?

West Coast is what you do for when you want to throw away a character.

Ehhhh Ben as a supporting character would suck too. He's pretty much an equal in all ways to Peter... Better in some. Always was. Supporting characters and sidekicks should be 'weaker' than the main character they support. Just on general principle.
