Default Hacked Documents Reveal Sony and Marvel Discussed Film Crossovers

There was a massive hack on Sony's Sony Pictures division. Well, today we have interesting details about Spider-Man:
-There were talks with Disney about including Spidey in CA: Civil War, but it fell apart.
-Sony approached Sam Raimi to get back to the franchise, is not known if as a director or producer.

And it seems that they really have no idea what to do with the franchise...

Those are both based on the same Wall Street Journal piece.

I wonder if Black Panther is filling the role Spidey was supposed to have in Civil War. This might also explain why Marvel announced their slate when they did. They wanted to finish the Spider-Man negotiations by that point.

I could see why Sony's not interested in Marvel making the Spider-Man films, though I'd have liked to see a Marvel trilogy.

    I don't condone hacking people's business emails.

But it's a shame this did not pan out. Spidey had a huge part in Civil War.

Trust Sony to toss away gold for a shovel so they can just continue to bury what they have

It's unfortunate that they couldn't come to some sort of compromise. Surely it would have been win-win. Marvel make a decent Spider-Man (which would only strengthen the brand) and have their most iconic character take his place in the MCU, Sony still make money and the fans get what they want.

The talk of having a Sony Spider-Man animated comedy flick was pretty interesting(that too directed by the directors of 21 Jump Street). I thought Marvel had rights to making all animated versions of Spidey?

It would be a massive improvement on the dour fest of the Spidey movies.

But isn't the Black Panther a part of another country/continent ?
    Wouldn't that complicate things a bit ?

They are not obviously going to retell Civil War as it was in the comics. The overall concept of regulation of superpowered vigilantes might be tackled in such a way that it can cross borders. And there are no secret identities in the MCU either.

Also the main draw of Civil War was seeing superheroes with opposing idealogies fight in the form of over the top comic book brawls. The details can be changed so long as that is being met.

It wouldn't be the exact same story. But Black Panther could be someone who starts out on Iron Man's side, and then goes to Cap's side.

Spider-Man in Civil War would not have made sense.

"OMG! That guy who was not a part of the MCU just unmasked himself! This affects nothing in the MCU!"

All this does is reinforce the notion that Sony doesn't know how to handle the Spider-Man film franchise. Although giving an animated film to the directors of The Lego Movie (who also did the live action 21/22 Jump Street movies) is actually a great idea.

(Also, I totally called it about them possibly getting Sam Raimi to come back in some capacity.)

Except if he unmasked in the MCU, he would be part of the MCU.
