Default What Is Your Favorite Stanley Kubrick Movie?

So many of his films are excellent and I'm curious which film people like the most or think is his best overall. Personally I find it difficult to pick just one. For the purposes of this poll I went with Dr. Strangelove. A great movie with great performances by Peter Seller as different characters plus George C. Scott and a young James Earl Jones. As a teenager I really enjoyed A Clockwork Orange, The Shining and Full Metal Jacket and they're still some of my favorite films. I think the ending to Paths of Glory is absolutely beautiful and a great performance by Kirk Douglas as well. The cinematography in Barry Lyndon was outstanding and an excellent story.

2001 is not only my favorite Kubrick film, it's my favorite movie period.

    Doctor Strangelove.

I haven't seen The Killing yet, but I can watch Doctor Strangelove any time.

    The Moon Landing.

    I kid, I kid.

I went with 2001-- easily in my top 10 favorites of all time-- although if poll choices were limited, I would have included "Eyes Wide Shut" as an option over "The Killing."

I've only seen three on that list. I like the first part of Full Metal Jacket a lot. Once Basic Training is over, I lose interest. 2001: A Space Odyssey I've seen twice, and I just cannot get into it. I like it visually, though.

So I have to go with The Shining. Ironically, I didn't like that either the first time I saw it, back in 1995. Then about 4-5 years ago, I watched it for a second time and found myself liking it. I've since watched it many more times, have bought it on Blu-ray, and now love it.

Yeah the first half of FMJ is amazing and while the second part isn't bad it isn't the same level of quality IMHO. I'd say my favorite is Strangelove, an old favorite of mine. Oh OP did you mean to be able to select multiple films in the poll or did you just want everyone to pick 1?

Torn between Clockwork Orange and Eyes Wide Shut (which isn't on the poll).

Strangelove is in my all-time Top 5 films, so that one gets my vote. So many incredible films to choose from. Kubrick was a master filmmaker, no doubt.

I have seen all but Lolita. The only one I am not a big fan of is Barry Lyndon and I am a bit lukewarm on Eyes Wide Shut. I would highly recommend his early work in the heist caper The Killing as well as the war drama Paths of Glory.

Strangelove and Shining are neck and neck for me.
My alternate choice would have been Clockwork or Lolita.

Dr. Strangelove, followed by Full Metal Jacket. Those are the two that I go back to over and over again.

The Killing was really good, but not exactly what you'd think of when you think of a "Kubrick movie." It's more like a really solid crime movie from the '50s, that just so happens to be directed by Kubrick.

2001 beats out Full Metal Jacket, Dr. Strangelove, Spartacus and Clockwork Orange for me. I haven't seen the others yet.

I re-watched Dr. Strangelove tonight (I had watched Clockwork earlier in the week) ... I think it's my new number one. Maybe because I'm older and see more of what's going on in the movie happening now.

Would anyone recommend The Killing? I think it's the only film of his that I haven't watched.
