Read the first issue of the Asmus/Mann series today - how the hell did this comic get cancelled?!?
I disagree. I think he did a fantastic job with both characters and plot.
I'm pretty sure the Marvel movie machine had more to do with it. The Gambit solo had little to no advertising, no push for the book. They were too busy ramping up the All New series and the many Avengers books.
Asmus's book did just as well as the Hawkeye solo but Hawkeye didn't get cancelled.
I would agree with no advertising, no push, and add to that the fact that Gambit was wallpaper prior to the solo. There was no momentum for his solo which is why a lot of people were shocked Marvel decided to give him a solo.
However, Hawkeye's book definitely sold more. Gambit and Hawkeye debuted within a few thousand units of each other but Gambit's sales started to decline into the 20k range while Hawkeye remained above 30k and still sells above that amount consistently. Of course, he got more of a push and came into the solo as a prominent member of the Avengers in the comics and the movies.
It's hard for me to listen to someone not in my position. A caterpillar can't relate to what an eagle envisions.
Lets not forget #1's and variants galore competing with the solo title. There were allot of mitigating factors for why the book couldn't hold on. Most of which Syn Inn and Remydat noted.
@Juan678, thanks for the funny.

I don't see too many Gambit fans posting in the ANXF thread anymore, or is the group just quiet.

heh heh, and with pictures no less. And nothing to do with ANXF unless its complaints.
It sure does. It saddens me to not participate there because I enjoy the book so much. But I'm not going to read all that stuff. I will admit I do visit daily too but not motivated to post anything. I will on comic book day, just in case PAD pops in.
And PAD should know there are actually fans who enjoy his book.

I'm gonna throw some Gambit questions at you folks:
1. What is your favourite writer for Gambit?
2. Favourite artist for Gambit?
3. Favourite Gambit series/mini-series?
4. Favourite love interest?
5. Favourite Gambit villains?
6. Favourite quote?
7. Favourite fight?
8. Favourite alternate reality version of Gambit?
9. Favourite appearance outside of the comics for Gambit (cartoon/game/movie)?
10. Favourite team-ups?
I really hope that no one scared PAD off! I always admire writers and artists who are willing to jump into the sea of crazy to learn how their work has been received, despite the constant lunatics and trash talkers. I wouldn't be able to take it. The only thing I appreciate about that thread is getting the background info on the other characters without having to drop a bunch of dough and time on finding their old stories. Helps me to understand their interaction with Gambit
