Default New "Archie" #1 On the Way in 2015 from Mark Waid & Fiona Staples

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper hesitant about this. One of Archie's appeals was the fact that it called back to a bygone era.

Also, updating the franchise for the modern day includes giving Jughead a Buger King crown? Aren't we passed that?

Regardless, the art does look good and the creative team seems solid...

    Still... Hesitant.

    Well, I'm torn.

I like Waid's writing, but Staples is so perfect on Saga that I kind of don't want her working on anything else. I guess that's kind of selfish.

Not at all - my ONLY concern here is Fiona's work on Saga. Hell, I (finally) registered an account JUST to post that concern.

    *because I'm concerned

I mean, Archie's been doing pretty good lately, with Afterlife and Sabrina and the Dark Circle relaunch looks interesting.

But yeah, what does this mean for Saga?

I used to read Archie all the time when I was younger. This will probably get me reading again, so I'm excited.

Well this is a bit of a surprise or two. I mean despite the various changes in the comics over the years...Archie Comics seems like the LAST PLACE anyone would expect a modern day reboot. I mean I'm curious to see how it turns out and just if they can keep it up ?

I've been an Archie fan for forty years and find this relaunch to be....curiously interesting. Mark Waid's track record speaks for itself, despite the misstep that was Indestructible Hulk, as for Fiona Staples, I have no idea who she is, that said, I wasn't too terribly impressed with that art sample. I guess I'll have to wait until this book comes out before I pass judgment.

This sounds good, a more modern take on archie, they've been moving forward a lot these days. I just hope waid doesn't deviate from the original too much.

I just hope that Fiona Staples will still be the regular artist on Saga...

I've only read the Archie horror books, but this is intriguing.

First I heard of Lena Dunham writing an Archie book. Not touching that with a ten-foot pole.

Waid, on the other hand.. I hope he takes Archie back to his roots in a modern way and stays away from the edgy crap they've been going with.

Well, its like the Archie Comic president said in the NYTimes article,
the franchise has been kinda dusty and irrelevant for years, so they've
done things like introduce their first gay character into Riverdale
Kevin Keller or spin-off adventurous titles like Afterlife with Archie.
And its increased their sales and mindshare quite a bit. Now they've got a new TV show coming, a Marc Ecko apparel line...the next logical step is restarting to #1 with a fresh modern look and feel, and they got a big, accessible Eisner-award winning creative team
    behind them to do it.
