A variation of the crew cut seemingly has become popular with young American men again since the turn of the millennium. Rock star longer locks are actually rarer among young American men now than they were during the 1990s.

Dear Moderator, kind sir: I tried to edit my thread to add "SPOILERS" in the thread title, but it didn't work:

I also added the words SPOILER WARNING in 4 or 5 lines on my original post, plus changed all SPOILER images to links.

Could you please add the word SPOILER to my thread title?

    Thanks in advance.

The crew cut is fine (I have had one a few times over the years myself), but not with the bow tie. That looks too '50s for me.

It *might* be doable if done right:

...but it would be a risky fashion statement these days.

The Flash pilot was so good that I can see it screwing up DC's film plans. Because I can totally imagine a scenario where popular opinion is that the shows Flash should be on the film.

See, that doesn't work at all. I will say I love wearing a bow tie with a tuxedo - that will never go out of style, IMO.

Most of the time, you can only give a character in TV or film a flat top haircut for one of 2 reasons: to make them look old & dated or to make them look punk/military/bad@$$ (like Bill Paxton in Weird Science or Aliens).

...and tweed jackets. By itself, the bow tie is somewhat risky, but when you add the tweed jacket, then you're really treading on dangerous fashion territory!

Venditti and Van Jensen may be a bit limited in that they don't want to retcon how Manapul/Buccellato portrayed him.
After 20 years of collecting comic books. I can't see Grant Gustin's nervous, insecure, imature and wimpy version of Barry Allen appealing to a teenage or 20 something male audience. And I can't see it selling books either. Even a quick perusal of the top selling video games will give you an idea of what kind of men that young men want to emulate. I wasn't crazy about what Buccellato and Manapul did on Flash, but at least they wrote Barry like a 20 something dude. If DC ever made Barry Allen (or any adult speedster) as weak and wimpy as Gustin's Flash the book would tank.

Gustin really wasn't weak and wimpy.

I get that you don't like Gustin's Barry Allen... in all likelihood you never will. Most others seems to be enjoying it. The ratings will ultimately tell. It wouldn't be unreasonable to surmise that quite a few disagree with your description of his portrayal.
