RicStar: The Rictor/Shatterstar Appreciation Thread

I love this couple. PAD did an amazing job portraying a sex positive, mature couple.

Agreed. They're one of the few couples in comics that actually complements their personalities. I love the oblivious show-off in Shatterstar and the brooding, exasperated Rictor separately...and I also love seeing that smooshed together with Rictor being exasperated at Shatterstar's obliviousness but also totally in love. It's all kind of great and I hate shipping [feel free to insert Amazon Prime jokes here].

I personally wouldn't mind seeing these two make a comeback, in addition to liking them both as individuals I love the way they play off each other. It's fun to watch them interact with each other and at this point it's really hard for me to see them as a "gay" couple so much as just a couple, which is what comics should strive for imo. Their relationship doesn't feel forced whereas Northstar's defining trait just seems to be his homosexuality (sorry) and Ice-Man's coming out was incredibly forced, poorly handled, and something that I honestly think was done just for the shock factor and therefore disagree with.

Well I think comics are always convoluted - not just the 90s. But PAD is one of the only writers I'm not frustrated with this relationship reveal because he is mocking it. It is very what those characters are and instead of figuring it out (which I would have preferred) he paid tribute to it.

Agreed, though that revelation still makes my head hurt.

I don't think that they should be included or excluded from any book because of their sexuality, though right now that seems to be most of what both have going for them, sure they both have fans just not sure how the fans would like it if a writer not named PAD wrote them and wrote them very differently than he did and say had one cheat on the other or something, not saying that either would or should just it's easy to like a pairing when the writer that makes them a pair also loves them, not every writer does...

I don't want to see them come back because they're a same sex couple, I want to see them come back because they're awesome characters. Admittedly I'd settle for a series just featuring Shatterstar (though a solo or partnership with Longshot would be awesome too) but at this stage you really can't have him without Rictor. I do agree that it would suck for someone to come in and completely undermine or even undo everything PAD established with them *coughbendiscough* so it might be just as well that they haven't resurfaced since the end of X-Factor Investigations.

Given from what I've seen going on the comics lately, I should think a teleporter as powerful as Shatterstar would be a much needed asset during these times. Weren't a bunch of them killed off by Bastion making them a rarity? Couple that power with his fighting ability and, hell, that's a solid character to draw on right there, even if you don't count on his unique parentage (Dazzler & Longshot) and a dimension people still know little about: Mojoworld. Rictor is an Alpha-class mutant with an empathic link to the earth. His abilities have never been fully explored. The potential material is Right! There! for a talented writer and artist.

I've been trolling the threads and not particularly assured by what I've read in the X-reviews. It all looks like chaos to me. RicStar have been a pair since the 90s, one of the few still associating together, and I'd be trilled to see them dusted off and kicking some ass again.
