Comic Newbie, what are some DC essentials?

I hated it. I thought it was poorly drawn, poorly written, and the charcters were completely unlikable jerks. And not in a good way. It was downright painful to read.

Okay. Well I have the opposite opinion. The character interactions were fun, the plots were enjoyable and the cliffhangers were fantastic.

Some good suggestions in this thread. I'll vote for All Star Superman. It's one of the best treatments of the character I've ever read.

Shame to hear that Suicide squad hasn't been good, I'm actually really looking forward to the movie. I've heard the same thing about Swamp thing, how about Animal man - have you read any of that?

The old Suicide Squad is really good.

The 80s series written by Ostrander is one of the best comic series ever.

Also check out Secret Six, they're pretty much the same thing with different members.
