Jameson and Lou Grant were often very different characters, which makes that such a great casting gag. You will be greatly missed, Mr. Asner.

Ed Asner was pretty great in everything he did -- comedy, drama, movies, television, series, miniseries (like Rich Man, Poor Man or Roots), live action, or animated. He really had a breadth of experience and left his mark.

So, now that Ed Asner's gone, the only surviving cast member of EITHER The Mary Tyler Moore Show or The Golden Girls is Betty White who will turn ONE HUNDRED YEARS OLD in four-and-a-half months on January 17!

Ironically I've never seen the Wire. I mean, I've seen clips on youtube, but those were of Idris Elba's character. But everything else I've seen him in was awesome. Loved him in Purge 2. RIP.
