Default What if Spider-Man had actually been Spider-Woman?

I'm not talking about other characters or alternate universes. I'm talking if the first, original Spider-Man, had actually been a girl.
What would have happened? Would she have been equally popular? Would things have gone differently?

I've always thought Spidey would've made a darn nice and very original female superhero. Also brings clearer subtexts to the relationship she'd have with Norman Osborn and Eddie Brock.

Imagine if back when the character was invented, she was a young nerd girl. Mary Jane would've actually been Mark Jane, the high school's jock. Perhaps Harry Osborn, Spidey's best friend, could've been Henrietta Osborn.

Imagine if things went like that: would you have liked the character just the same? Or more? Or less? And why?

I think she would have been just as popular which would be great for a female character, but I think she would have unfortunately also been subjected to being much more exposed than male characters but not in a good way. I think we'd have a Wonder Woman type situation on our hands where people know the character is underdressed but because of tradition or her costume's "iconic" status no attempt to fix the problem would last for long.
