I'll reframe the question. Was it the right decision to break away from the UK and create the 52 States, rather than remain a British colony, and split the country with France and Mexico? The reason I ask this is not just for an expression of Patriotism, but, to analyse if the North American States have become viable, and a fertile place for growth and its people, or, has it turned out the dream wasn't as good as it first sounded?
You could have something similar to Canada, or even a fused Canada/America right now, if the founding fathers had not had the war of independance. Would a Canada/America have been a better idea, than the United Stares of America?
I ask this not to be inflammatory, but as a scholarly question of the condition of America versus the condition of Canada as an example. Comparing the two, what has made the USA better? Is it this independance that made the difference in WWII, the War on Terror, the challenge of Communism? What are the qualities of America that makes it stand out that it was all worthwhile?
(I put it this board, because the super heroes must be a part of the reason for America. Superman is American. Spiderman is American. Could these have come about in a Canada/America fusion?)
