365 Days with Namor, Day 34
"Tame the beast or save the stupid, stupid human?"
In which Namor is (begrudgingly) merciful.

I wonder if Namor would feel better if he knew it wasn't a human he's saving?

Namor avoiding the exit door, again! Not sure what is going on here, but it looks like old times with the cops chasing Namor, and no Russians!

I like the way you're posting them by decade. There's a real feeling of how times and art and values change.
They just don't do covers of Heroes vs American enemies anymore do they? We had Nazis and communists, but it got unacceptable in the seventies. Now it's faceless corporations when they want this kind of cover.
On another note, and not to disparage tiny wings, but the Angel's costume is really lame.

"Self has no time for this."
Thanks! I didn't realize that would be the case, but it does give a nice weekly snapshot of those things and the evolution of Namor across the decades. I did to help me keep track of what's been posted, and to show some stuff that doesn't normally get seen, even in the appreciation thread.
No, they don't do those sorts of covers anymore as people are more aware of propaganda and it's purpose -- plus there's the racism. The closest thing we have now is terrorists, but I think I see more of them on tv shows, than in comics. Plus, there really isn't a terrorist 'uniform' or race.
I was reading about the early issues of Marvel Comics, and for some reason, Goodman thought the Angel would sell more comics than Namor on the cover. Obviously, he finally came to his senses by this time and gave Namor his book.

Day 38
Fantastic Four Annual #1
by Jack Kirby
Cover Date: 1963
"The Sub-Mariner vs The Human Race!!!"
Back when the human race = NYC.
This issue also re-introduced the lovely Lady Dorma ...
who promptly tried to drown Sue Storm.
Also this issue has nothing to do with the panel I posted yesterday, which is from the 1940s. It is, however, the issue whence the Kirby panel of Namor's return / coronation originated, which I posted on Wednesday with the glorious return of his Highness in Avengers. Serendipity!
