1000 books in 2015

Curious as to how the community in general counts issues of manga? They're typically a bit shorter so I would be okay counting them as say, 2/3 of a regular american comic issue.

I ask because I read all of One Piece this year, which is at I believe 811 "chapters." Even if you cut that in half, or take of a third, I'm well over 1000 issues.

I'd go with two chapters equalling an issue. Part of it is that manga chapters are shorter than standard issues, and that early translations of manga tended to include two chapters per American issue, even though that was before One Piece came to the US.

When I read Lone Wolf and Cub I counted every tale as an issue, but that was because these were typically 60 pages long.

Satellite Sam HC (15) - Intriguing murder mystery with many moving parts. Thought Chaykin did a fine job with a large cast, but his obvious lack of concern for hand/foot anatomy really started to draw my attention away from the rest of his work, which was really solid.

I have a tendency to round some of my counts when something doesn't precisely equal one issue. As long as it isn't just a three-page back-up story, I'll often count a 12-issue thing (e.g. when a TPB contains "Wolverine 33-36 and material from 37", and that material is a good portion of it, I'll record "Wolverine 33-37"). But that's also because I round the reverse way too, and that adds up when you're rounding double-sized Specials or Annuals, or quadruple-sized OGNs, to one issue.

So if your chapters come to a bit less than 20 pages, but you're also rounding down some other things, I wouldn't worry too much.

PS: I've read a bunch over the past month, but I'll wait to do my final big post on January 1st.
